Hmm, the ROME2D16-2T probably won't supported EPYC 1st Gen either.
This somehow seems to be related to Dual Socket + PCIe4.0... Can anyone confirm?

But it is in the catalogue (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/Catalog2020.pdf)

ROME2D16-2T: "1+1 SP3 (LGA4094); Supports AMD EPYC™ 7002 Series Processors"
ROMED8-2T: "Socket SP3 (LGA4094); Supports AMD EPYC™ 7002/7001 Series Processors"

I'd be very positively surprised if the ROME2D16-2T supported EPYC 1st gen for sure, but I'm def. not counting on it.

This thread is making me think there isn't going to be one board that supports all 3 generations!

That's a big shame as I was hoping to buy this cheap v1 cpu, put it in a gen 2 board, and eventually get an upgrade path all the way to gen 3.

Yeah I was planning to do exactly this too...

I've sent both AsRock and Gigabyte a message, asking whether 7001 series is supported or will be in the future...

The critical point for me is if the ROMED8-2T will support Milan or not. As far as I know there's no reason it can't other than Asrock choosing not to bother, which would presumably be for commercial reasons rather than technical ones?

I wanted a motherboard that supports all 3 gen EPYC too. Supermicro might if they updated bios for their H12 motherboards.

Do you know if anyone ever tried to put a 7001 in a H12 Supermicro board? Because support said it wouldn't work.
The review of the Asrock X570 board on the main site now also says that the 2700 doesn't work in that board. So it's a big gamble for me atm.

I haven't seen hard proof of this other than that one user that replied to the thread saying any motherboard supporting 7002 should also support 7001. I'm skeptical, that's why I haven't bought a H12 motherboard either.

Hmm, the Gigabyte MZ71-CE0 / MZ71-CE1 seems to be a compromise:

Works with both Naples and Rome. One of the PCIe Slots and the M.2 Slot becomes a 4.0 (rest of them stay at 3.0)...

I haven't personally used any H12 boards with anything other than 7002 chips. I've put 7002 in H11 boards after BIOS updates, but not the other way around. Sorry!

Depends on the noise level you want to achieve ;-)
I would generally recommend the NH-U14S together with a second fan.

But beware: You're going to need a 5HE case for this!

It would be great if someone like @WillTaillac or maybe @Patrick could shed some light on this for us:oops:. Would make buying a mobo 10x easier.

Can see how this would differ per vendor or even per board tbh.
Generally with 7001 look for 7001 compatibility. 7002/ 7003 motherboards use WAFL for OOB management so the wiring is slightly different. You lose that when you put 7002 in a 7001 motherboard. Had a bit more in the EPYC 7002 Knockout launch piece.

OK, thanks, this will be in a PC case.

I asked AMD about carrier frame, the cpu sold by Dutch seller are OEM cpu-s, this means amd's warranty support is not valid on them. I asked AMD about selling carrier frame, I am waiting for the answer.
