All AMD (Ryzen and RX) Monero Mining Rig

Since I know we have a lot of Monero mining folks, I wanted to highlight a little build with a unique feature, it is based solely on using AMD CPU and GPUs for mining.

Configuration
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
    with stock cooler
  • Motherboard: ASUS Prime B350-Plus
  • GPUs: AMD RX 480 (Gigabyte) and AMD RX 470 (ASUS)
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 (I want it to be usable later) 2x 16GB Patriot Viper 2666
  • Chassis: NXZT S340
    vanilla with 2x the case fans (pulled from the S340 Elite build)
  • PSU: Seasonic 750W
Major note here - you can do this with a 2GB DDR4-2133 stick and save close to $200.

Here is how to get mining working in Ubuntu: Monero Mining Performance

Performance
~1600 H/s or faster than 2x Xeon E5-2690 V4's (by about 300H/s)

The key takeaway is that moving to a lower speed slot due to the B350's PCIe configuration and lack of bifurcation did not change the hash rate. Neither did moving from PCIe 3.0 x8 to PCIe 3.0 x16 on the RX 480.

Using a 1.5% pool fee and 0.5% rejected share rate, the earning power (minus electricity) is
  • $3.1097 per day or
  • $93.2910 per month
Given electricity is not counted, that is not great with a 9-month payback.

The big question is...how much total power is it pulling at the wall?

Thinking about running Monero when I'm afk (about 10 hours a day) to get some pocket change.

I usually forget to close a game anyway, so no matter what my PC is pulling moderate to high amounts of electricity (190-210W usually).

Lower than a 470/480 but still around 400H/s or a bit higher.
You need to work out how many watts you are pulling and how much they cost you to calculate whether or not you can make a profit :)
