One of the lower pictures looks like it has better air flow.

If it is a standard form factor, like ITX, you could transfer it to another case.

Doesn't seem like standard ITX, but these systems are great except for one thing: BIOS updates and the like are non existent. Do not expect any sort of support from the who-knows manufacturer, and the CPUs are often night shift units or engineering samples that have been repurposed.

Edit: I own a 8750H based unit in a similar frame like this one.

This "Mini Tree" one has an intel nic: link
This "Topton" one has a realtek nic only: link

The only con is that it has no on-board video out, so it should have a dedicated GPU card.

From the bilibili.com video records, a bunch of d-1581 CPUs appeared on Chinese market from around Nov or Dec last year.

Moding idea:
(1) Changing the wifi card to a SFP nic or intel rj45 nic and asking the seller to bind it to the case?

I think @Patrick needs to get one and make a video/article. Seems like it could make a good little pfsense box
With a single 1Gbit NIC they seem pretty terrible for that purpose, IMHO. Also, high core count is not going to help much there, in my experience. If you want to route 10Gbit for example you will have issues with 15xx series, they just don't have the single core oomph.

@anomaly I thought pfsense required a couple cores but running snort or suricata on there was a more multi-threaded load. Is it more frequency dependant?

At $599, pretty cool. The @newabc board looks better.

July is moving all of the labs and re-doing hosting clusters so sadly not a project to take on. Maybe @WillTaillac wants to though.

I think I saw a better board and case combo which was designed for routing box: link. But I don't know whether it can be ordered since it was a group buying item happened around Nov-Dec 2020 and the seller manufactured them before March 2021.

Update: The sales of this C3830 was ended.

I got in on the DFI mini industrial PC a while back and it's running as a PfSense box. It's been flawless and I added a 6 port NIC (Deal found here also). You pretty much have to have an application in mind with these small boxes. Most made lousy general purpose PC's.

the d-1581 mainboard appear a while, the lowest price like 150$-200$ for used, personally I don't want buy them. the cpu may or may not re-BGA from some old device(according somebody in recycling industry )
