I have homelab with HPE ML30 gen9 microserver, who has B140i software RAID controller. I have installed ESXi, which performance is terrible, even in SSD raid. I would like to buy some budget comatible HW RAID PCI-e controller for this microserver and try with that build? Thank you

You'll need to deal with heat but i'm pretty sure the p420 smart array works fine with active cooling!

P440 with battery is technically the HPE go to RAID solution for your Gen9 server but P420 should work fine and is much cheaper.
Also consider adding secondary PCI fan to the front if not present already. With additional card installed, server will be complaining that that fan is missing.

Hello, Thanks for info. I have in spare P410i from some other bussiness retired host. But it looks like it doesn't support SSD drives quite good..
It is also freeze my test ESXi 6.5 interface,, so probably too old.
I'll try to find P420 for test. Thanks
