Adding JBOD, will this work?

currently have the following system:

SuperMicro X10SDV-4C-TLN2F
128GB DDR4 ECC RAM
M1015
CSE 846 chassis
BPN-SAS2-846EL1 backplane

I'm thinking of using my old Chenbro 3U 16 bay chassis as an external JBOD as follows.

Swap the M1015 for a 9207-4i4e.

Install a SuperMicro CSE-PTJBOD-CB2 Power Board in the Chenbro 3U

The backplane in my chenbro does not have expander functionality, so I believe I would need something like a RES2SV240.

Would this work? SFF-8088 to SFF-8088 cable from 9207-4i4e in host system to SFF-8088 to SFF-8087 PCI adapter bracket. Then SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 from the adapter to the RES2SV240. Then SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 x4 from the RES2SV240 to the Chenbro backplane.

yes, that will work.

but little correction. it is sff-8087. no sff-8077.

and res2-expander you can also power with general 4pin molex (=old style hdd power connector).

if you have res2-expander, use it.
if you are looking for buying expander, then choose for chenbro expander. it has little small fan on chipset. those chipset get very hot if there is not a proper airflow over the chipset.
and...chenbro expanders have also 2 external ports (sff-8088). 1 to the host, 1 to the another jbod (daisy chaining).

or ck23803

don't buy chenbro ck12**** cards, those are sata-2 (3gbps) cards. lower speed.
ck23**** cards are sata-3 (6gbps) cards

You can also skip the supermicro jbod board and jumper the power supply to be always on, but then you need to have a fan controller in the chassis.

Fixed typo. Chenbro expander looks nice but is $300+. Would rather use the cheaper RES2SV240 and add fan.

Adding a PSU jumper may be a good idea. I’m planning to use the Noctua PWM fan controller to manually adjust the fan speeds.
