For a media pool there's no reason to go with a pool of mirrors IMHO @modder man RaidZ2 is what I would personally do. I'd rather have the added safety of that vs. 2 separate Z1s

I concur, raidz2 should be fast enough for a media share and safer. I understand the danger of raidz1 isn't just losing a second drive during resilver but some minor corruption (the kind a scrub would fix) being discovered after parity is lost.
