I have nowhere near enough patience to spend 3+ days running badblocks on 4 drives, just to have to do it again... so I went ahead and put them into service. I have plenty of redundancy and a spare in the pool, plus lots of backups, so it's an acceptable risk.

The seven drives I've got running have 67, 11126, 44, 67, 4289, 57, and 33 PoH.

Two of the drives I received had 80-odd hours, and the other four were just over 10K hours each. Since I've got drives in my arrays with 100K hours, I'd still consider them all "new".

Running badblocks on all drives (parallel), now that my Fujitsu CP400i has been cross-flashed to a 9300-8i.

Comparing the power requirements against my WD40EFRX drives, the 6TB Exos don't draw much more except under heavy load, and my system never really has them under heavy load.
Just following up on this: the old configuration was 5x4TB WD Red SATA, and my UPS reported 36% usage when the drives were fairly idle. The new configuration is 8x6TB Seagate Exos SAS, and the UPS reports 44% usage when the drives are fairly idle.

Since it is a 750VA UPS, this is an increase of approximately 60 watts, and in return I have more than doubled the raw storage capacity.

nice to finally see much less than $10 per TB! Hopefully this will trickle to the higher capacity ones soon

Probably only an increase of ~40 watts, since a (typical) 750VA UPS is ~500watts.
(I'm making the same accuracy/linearity assumption that you did, regarding the % readout of your UPS.)

I purchased ten so I'd have spares; one of the spares has taken over for this one already. Given the type of failure reported here I think this drive is dead-dead, there's no point in trying to reformat or rehabilitate it.

I'd throw it in the freebies thread versus trashing it as I'm sure someone would spend a bit of time refurbing it for some use. I still have a 20GB WD IDE drive that seems to have a head failed so only 10GB is good and it's still running as long as I don't try to use the other 10GB. ;)
