Is there an low-cost way to get 5Gbps ethernet into a 6610? I also have a microtik crs305-1g-4s+in switches I'm not using if that can be employed. I have fiber everywhere so ideally, usb-c to 5Gbps adapter to fiber to 6610?

For my other mac, I used a USB-C to 10Gbps adapter made by sonnet, a solo or something. That one I got for $150 but these days they are well over $200 so I thought, If I can get 5Gbps that's fine.

Thanks.

MikroTik S+RJ10

I just found the above SFP, so I can try it in the 6610 and if it doesn't work, I can use it in the mikrotik switch and connect that to the 6610.

Thanks

Thanks, that one looks to be the same price as the S+RJ10. So I guess the 6610 will handle it.

Any readers have experience with this:

Sabrent USB Type-A or Type-C to 5-Gigabit Ethernet Adapter [10/100/1000/2500/5000 Mbps] (NT-SS5G)

I've seen it for less money than on Amazon. I'm now just thinking of waiting until I can find another sonnet 10GE - USB-C adapter. I bought the first one for $150, and the 5Ge above is $126. I also have fiber running everywhere now and these 5GE are all copper.

Thanks

The 6610 does not handle 2.5. The Sfp has to be 10g on the switch side and multi rate on the ethernet side. The one I linked does that. I can't speak for the one you did.

Then I am missing something. Where did you plug that SFP? In the cable modem or 6610? I want to use a 5Ge adapter and need to terminate the 5Ge at a switch. The microtik SFP has 6 speeds and It supports 5Ge with the SFP I mentioned, the S+RJ10. I can then come out of the mikrotik switch on a 10G link to the 6610 but I thought you used that SFP in your 6610.

Thanks!

The cable modem has a 2.5g ethernet port.

The 6610 does not. It has a 10g SFP+. The 10g SFP+ port does not link at 2.5 or 5g. Thus the Amazon SFP+ I sent you above reports a 10g link to the switch but links at 2.5g with the cable modem. Ie it basically lies to the switch.

Hopefully that's clear.
