Yeah, they were slow to ship, this item iirc took almost 2 full weeks to arrive... slooooooo. I assumed it was cancelled but was not.
PMs, lots to reply to thank you - i'd rather trade right now than sell outright.

Not related to this buy but I had the same thing happen to me with some drives on r/homelabsales. Seller said he did some USPS 7 day shipping. Went from "label created" to at my local distribution center on the 7th day with no updates in between.

Thanks for the info. My package was finally shipped after almost 7 days wait.

that's still surprisingly hot with a fan straight on it. Then again these drives appear wired to run hotter.

yes, compared to my p4610 which runs around 46°C idle and 53°C under heavy load, the micron is pretty d*mn hot :)
actually 59°C in idle was the lowest ever temp i was able to get from that drive.

It could be interesting to open up that Micron - I have an E1.S drive from them that I took apart to fit onto an adapter designed for drives without a heatsink and the blobs of silicone thermal material on the controller / DRAM side of the PCB were all offset and barely making contact with the chips.

unfortunately i am not able to open it, mine has warranty sticker...(just kidding :D)
To be honest, I don't want to bother myself opening that drive.
If anyone who bought same drive(s) can share what temps theirs are running at, would be good to know.
I believe it is the flash controller, which is running very hot.

I guess I haven't seen inside a U.2 drive before, but two PCBs with no cooling in between seems like a good way to run some components rather hot.

Due to overheating this one is locked in a write protected mode that I am unable to clear. Fortunately, I did not have any data on it.

Well all the thermal material seems to be placed correctly, but I wonder if those oval slots in the front are designed to provide a bit of air flow between the two boards - that would work in a server chassis but not so much in some of the adapters and DIY mounts.

That was my thinking as well. Based on the directional heat sink grooves on the bottom, it's clear that it's supposed to have some front to back air movement.

Who is the manufacturer of the largest chip with a Pac-Man logo on the silicon?
