Is it possible to convert 4 SAS connections to a SF8087 mini-SAS interface?
Basically, in a somewhat boneheaded maneuver, I've been planning on moving my NAS to a SuperMicro 4U 24 bay 846 case with a SAS-expander backplane. I actually have everything, and was literally in the process of moving hardware when I pulled apart my NAS and realized that the mobo in my NAS (A supermicro X10SL7-F ), doesn't have SF8087 ports from the on-motherboard SATA HBA, but rather 8 single SAS/SATA ports.
So, boneheadedness aside, is it possible to convert these back to a 4-channel SF8087 connection? All 4 ports are coming from the same HBA, and I know you can go SF8087 to 4X SATA/SAS without issue. Am I stuck having to stick a PCIe HBA in the case?
TL;DR I made a poopy in my pants.
