Does not ship to Canuckistan :(

The 43s405 and 49s405 were both top of the heap for good cheap computer monitor for 2017. If you do a little googling. Between the tough time buying one of these and the cheap 8gb reds I think we need a Maple Syrup embargo.

Should be 60 Hz. Specs say 3x HDMI 2.0.

I'm not aware of any shipping large 4k monitors/TVs that do over 60 Hz. Certainly not for cheap.

I've tried ... but can't find any info on what kind of panel it is. Is it VA? MVA? IPS? or just plain TN? I could settle for TN given the price, but for larger panels it just gets a little washed out on the sides.

Also very important for monitor use is 4:4:4 chroma at 60hz and 4K. A lot of cheaper panels out there does not have true RGB pixel structure as well as does not do true 4:4:4 chroma, giving blurry text at native resolution esp when the txt and background are of certain color combination.

Chroma Subsampling: 4:4:4 vs 4:2:2 vs 4:2:0

The other problem to consider is that the lag time for most 4K panels are longer than that of smaller panels up to like 40ms. it could be noticeable to fast gamers.

also something RTings.com neglects a little is they do tell you if it will do 4:4:4 or that the input lag is low (20ms or less in game mode).... What they don't tell you is that when you have the tv in game mode, it no longer does 4:4:4

There are very few TV out there that will do true 4:4:4 chroma at 4K and 60hz with low input lag ( <20ms) all at once.

I understand this is a low-end monitor with VA (vs IPS) panel, poor viewing angles, dimmer display, low color gamut, semi-glossy (vs matte) screen, etc. So how do a TV display like this compare with computers monitors like the Dell UP3017?

That's a premium monitor. There is no comparison...lol.... The only thing is obviously the smaller size of the dell

Also looking at the RTing review, please note of section 10 regarding 4K input crosshatching effect specific to this 49S405 model...

Sorry, I don't mean to compare the two but interested in someone's experience of using a TV as computer monitor versus Dell computer monitors. Would a 4:4:4 chroma 4K TV give me sharp text and lines useful for coding or Excel?

yeah, that's what you will need esp for coding or excel spreadsheet since you are displaying a lot of small text in native single pixel font size in a lot of different color combination.

The most common issue is that like this TV most only do 4:4:4 at 4K and 60hz in PC mode. so your input lag will increase to 30-40ms instead of 20ms or less outside of the game mode.. This does not really make much different unless you are a fast gamer. So for coding and excel the 40ms input lag is not a big deal.
