Avago optics. What kind of fiber do you need for these? 4 Avago AFBR 79EQPZ 40GB Ethernet Infiniband QSFP Pluggable Parallel Modules | eBay look like a good deal at $150 compared to what I've seen elsewhere.
Good job @badskater my head hurts now hah, nice juicy linkOM3 and OM4 should work. I use this link to understand more when doing 40gbps: Fiber-Optic Cabling Connectivity Guide for 40-Gbps Bidirectional and Parallel Optical Transceivers - Cisco
That is correct. One would need an MTP connector. IE this cableOM3 and OM4 should work. I use this link to understand more when doing 40gbps: Fiber-Optic Cabling Connectivity Guide for 40-Gbps Bidirectional and Parallel Optical Transceivers - Cisco
Imagine when reading that and not understand fully (as I'm not a network guy, but it's a link a network guy at work sent me.) It hurts a lot.Good job @badskater my head hurts now hah, nice juicy link
Well I bought 2 sets of these. Seller took $100/ ea very quickly.
Less than $100 per 40G port (cables and optics minus switch cost)...not too shabby...not too shabby good sir! That's what we were paying for 10G 6 months to a year ago.Well I bought 2 sets of these. Seller took $100/ ea very quickly.

Ignorant ? o' the night...do these work in the QSFP ports like on a 40G gnodal switch and other 40G ethernet switch variants or also on the mellanox IB switches w/ ConnectX-3 or whatever compatible mellanox adapter would go w/ this optic or am I WAY out in left field?
If there are existing LC MM patch panel runs between those racks, the 2nd scenario I outlined may be interesting.I was going to try them in the Quanta T3048-LY8 and T3048-LY9. At some point I hope to expand the lab in the new DC but if I do the racks will likely be located elsewhere. If that is the case, then I will want to have 40Gb interconnects between the sets of racks.
You're gonna love dealing with 100GE if you're not already. It's still MPO-12 if the gear supports 100GBASE-SR4 (I haven't been so lucky yet), otherwise it's 100GBASE-SR10 and MPO-24. A little over $700 per 3M MPO-24 jumper last I checked, which isn't so bad considering.Imagine when reading that and not understand fully (as I'm not a network guy, but it's a link a network guy at work sent me.) Hi,
Just for giving some feedback !
I had tested them with :
- A Chelsio T580-CR card
- a MTP trunk cable from fiberstore : 12 Fibers MTP Trunk Cable 10G OM4 12 Standard LSZH Cable
- A Gnodal GS4008 having 8 QSFP ports
Here the report connexion from win7 :
