Like the title says, I'm considering both 400GB and 480GB SSD for a new server. I know both have 512GB physical so it is just more OP. How much usable capacity difference? Is it 80GB or less?

The 400GB Intel S3700 and SanDisk lb400s are both in a test rig now and I can see a Samsung SM843 480GB drives in another rig.

Both the 400GB drives in Windows say 372.49GB
The 480GB drives say 447.13GB

The difference then is 74.64GB so we have about 6.7% less space than the 80GB advertised difference.

Or you could think of it this way

Grab the 480gb ones.

Create an 80gb host protected area ( so the drive ends up over provisioned ) it will have more permanent free space to do its wear levelling.

;)
