I have a "spare" 9750c ard that I though to utilize in an ESXI host - sadly it seems the card is only supported up until ESXI4.0 :(

Anyone got this working, or know if I can flash the card to say... a LSI 92xx-4i? :)

I used extensively 2 3ware controllers in esxi 5 and 5.5. One was a 9690 and one a 9750. Both worked just fine after installing the .vib via ssh.

Ok, so drivers seem to work, but tw_cli are not detecting the controller... :(

~ # /vmfs/volumes/NAPP-IT\ VOL1/Apps\ etc/Drivers/3ware/tw_cli show

No controller found.
Make sure appropriate AMCC/3ware device driver(s) are loaded.

~ # lspci | grep 3ware
0000:02:00.0 Mass storage controller: 3ware 9650SE LSI 3ware 9750 [vmhba3]

Not sure there's much to be done about this. Is there no option to get a newer/better supported controller?
Yeah, I guess I could, but now I kinda want to get this working ;)

I tried passing it through to a Debian host - no output in tw_cli either, BUT I can see and deal with it in 3dm2...

Maybe you need an older version of the utility? My experience with 3ware controllers is limited unfortunately. Though a quick google seems like this is just how it works on esxi 5.5+.

You might know more than you know! I tried an older version and:

~ # /tmp/CLI_vmware-from_the_10-2-2-1_9-5-5-1_codesets/esxi/tw_cli show

Ctl Model (V)Ports Drives Units NotOpt RRate VRate BBU
------------------------------------------------------------------------
c2 9750-4i 2 2 0 0 1 1 -

Thanks!

One laaaast issue before I got it working :

//ESXI-E5-Host> /c2 add type=raid1 disk=0:1
Segmentation fault

YAAAAR!!!
(at first - then it turns out I need to have a specific tw_cli to get it working (Support))

So, in order to get (mt) 9750-4i working in ESXi5.5u2:

Install VIB's:
LSI_2.27.08.036vm50-offline_bundle-637081
LSI_3.26.00.003vm50-offline_bundle-646893

and use tw_cli from:
Knowledgebase

:)

EDIT: Seems Avago have removed the KB-article, so here's the file uploaded instead.
