This is highly desirable 3U chassis from SuperMicro. I just noticed this deal and I remember most of us were looking for 3U SuperMicro chassis so wanted to share this listing. It looks like a pretty good price, especially if you are close to S Carolina.

It's a decent price and in quantity. If you don't already have the trays, that's additional cost. If they have trays & rails, it may make sense to get them together to save on shipping costs.

Minos is the recycling company I am using for my data center... I am messaging the owner now to see if they do have the caddys and rails available with them or if they can be made a separate listing and combine shipping.

He also seems to be selling a BUNCH of Supermicro X9 and X10 series boards... if anyone is wanting possibly a package deal.

I am curious to see what their response is.

Any idea if EEATX board like x9DRI-LNF4+ will fit in this chassis?

STH effect is in place. When I posted, I remembered that there were 29 of them available. Now I only see 6.

You also need 16 ports to feed this beast.
Yeah, this is a good use case for a 16 port HBA/RAID card.

At least its "pre-wired" for anyone that can use SFF-8087 connectors. Trying to route and secure all those individual data cables sucks mightily...unless you pull the midplane structure out...which also sucks mightily.

Update:

Minos Tech has about 60 of these chassis (minus whatever is probably sold so far) and 100 caddies. I am hoping to see if I can get a pricing from them about the caddies to add into the sale or a "code" to put in the offer to add caddies.

No rails can be found for them... but I asked if he can keep an eye out for them.

I hope to get something more set up ASAP.

For anyone buying one of these, you may wish to consider replacing the power supplies. They're likely to be 10+ years old (model is from 2006 or earlier) and quite inefficient.

^^^ This. I suck at routing the cables and neatly organized and get envious of folks who do an immaculate job. I have a 836TQ that I bought few years ago using with the recent X10SRH deal. 8 bays connected to the SAS3 and another 8 to SATA. It was a royal pain. I thought of removing the fan wall during the process but managed to route/ plug in the cables by just removing fans.

I purchased four used Compellant CT-SC030 a while back - very similar to this 836 chassis and the PWS -801-1R in this chassis is very very loud and then x2 if you run both. Upon application of power the 801 fans spin up and stay that way. This fact is also documented in other threads.

Better is the PWS-920P-SQ or if you are not going to drawless power then the PWS-501P-1R (no personal experience on the 501 - just read its about the quietest SM psu you can get for this chassis.

Shameless plug! I've a couple of 16x sets 3.5 caddies. One set of 16x is Coraid branded SM trays.

@itronin - I have PWS-501P-1R. They are Platinum rated and quiet. I don't have experience but read here that PWS-741P-1R are also quiet and Platinum rated.

Also here is a search for less expensive 3.5 to 2.5 HS tray adapters. While the dell model is cheaper, they restrict the airflow over the 2.5 drives. HP ones and Lenovo have recess for airflow. I don't have any experience with these but have a few Intel plastic ones that came with the P4000 chassis and they do restrict the airflow.

ebay search -
