when you get your order, would be very much appreciated if you can report back on the SMART data, specifically power on hours, any errors, etc.

I guarantee you that these have 1 billion hours of run time on them. Or every hour of everyday since around the date of manufacture which I dont see on the drive actually.

wait, how are you going to guarantee that 1 billion hour statement again? :p

looks to be about 4 yrs old, so probably around 30000-35000 hours if it was in use that long. if they were not IBM OEM like the sticker suggests in the picture, they would have had a 5 yr warranty i believe. there is probably plenty of life left in them, but i would expect 1 or 2 to die in the next year or two if you're buying a batch.

would be interested in knowing what the actual power on hours are though... this is all speculation so far. i know plenty of businesses that keep cold spares, or have a warm redundant site for fail over that is powered on for DR exercises and then shut off. you never know what you might get...

the price is pretty good for $/TB. might be worth while for some spare parts for a lab or testing backplanes or NAS devices.

They accepted $27 for 34 of them. Warning: they charge various tax % in all 50 states. See their ad for a link to a table.

I always contact Arizona state AG's office when these little companies collect sales tax in all 50 states. Curious if they actually remit what they collect. I have had THREE companies refund me taxes after informing them of my correspondence with state AG.

Just an FYI for those of you that bought them. Looks like they're 528b blocks and need formatted using sg_utils.

I bought 6 and 4 were 2011 DOM and 2 were 2014 DOM, was really hoping for all to be 2014

just received the 18 drives i ordered. all were made in 2013. when i have time, i'll power them on and get the SMART data.

i have to say, for an order of 18 hard drives, a lot of sellers just through them together in a box with some padding or bubble wrap. this particular seller did a stellar job and shipped them in a foam made specifically for 20 hard drives in a very thick box with nylon straps and each drive was sealed in it's own anti-static bag. really nicely done... i hope that means all the drives work.

So, in my case, it looks like i have regular 512b sectors with IBM-XIV branded firmware. 8 of these are currently working in a Supermicro 825TQ with a SAS2008 based AOC-USAS2 card. All 8 drives have similar SMART data output.

Some of them were 528 bytes/sectors. Will check those on the weekend. Thanks for the link @BLinux
