Got mine installed into my workstation. I have a spare Dell H330 that I used for the controller. I used some Amphenol "12Gb" cables and they do indeed link at 12Gb. Interestingly, these seem to be two 800GB drives in RAID0? It shows as mraid0:0.

These are the cables I used.

Here is a quick CDM run on the fresh drive. Looks like I'm hitting the limits of a single SAS3 channel.

Here is the temperature reported in Storage Executive. This is a few minutes after the CDM run. Right after it was at 44*C.

The mraid0:0 could be a result of it being a dual port sas drive

That is very interesting indeed. It is surprising that it is coming from Micron software too, maybe it is trying to tell us something that it shouldn't ;) Anyone with 3.2Gb version notice anything interesting in the software ?

Why does the drive already have 40 start stop cycles in 4hrs?
Not sure. I’ve had it in a DL380 G8 for the first few hours. If this measures full power cycles I’d think it would be around 5-8 due to the drive being moved around.

Maybe it’s a sleep/wake counter?

If the H330 is a raid controller then you'll see a volume on a raid 0 of a single drive...

It is, and that's a definite possibility. However:

1) It shows in Windows device manager as Micron s630dc SSD - it doesn't say it's a RAID logical volume/device.
2) I've used this controller previously with FreeNAS and it correctly passes through the drives when not using RAID. SMART data and all.

I'll play around with it some more this evening and see what I can find out.

Did you need to connect the white molex power cable to your psu? I have mine in a custom case with a lot of extra space. I mounted a small fan on top of the drive to help cool a bit.

Yes, you need to provide power to the drive.

I have one in a Fractal Define R6. It's mounted in a drive tray that sits in front of my radiator. Seems to work well. Idle temps are ~37*C.

Also, I put two side-by-side in a Supermicro 8-bay hotswap cage mounted in the top bays of a Dell T430. The enclosure is connected to a Dell HBA330.

I'll grab some smartctl output, but I do know that smartctl says "thermal trip" is 70*C and they seem to stay at 47*C no matter what (idle/load). Airflow seems pretty good through the enclosure. It would probably hold-up a sheet of paper.

So are you guys pretty happy with the drives? I got two of the 800GB drives on a whim for a scratch drive on a Windows 10 Plex box. Attached to an Adaptec 71605, they seem ok, about SATA speeds (550MB/s read, 500MB/s write). I might dump them so I can also not use this RAID card.

Anyone know whether thermal double sided tape/thermal adhesive together with a heatsink attached to the ssd case would be effective in cooling these down?

That's becuase the 7 series is sas2 only :D
(7 series were sas2, but pcie 3.0)
So got an Lenovo 430 (LSI 9400) to plug these into and now get 1050MB/s read and 700MB/s writes, so SAS3 speeds. Is dual port the only way to get published speeds of 1400+ MB/s?

You need dual port.

SATA3 is 550MB/s max 6gb/s
SAS3 is around 1.1GB/s max 12gb/s

@croakz your reads are very close to max. Your writes are between SATA3 and SAS3 max speeds.

2/8 drives in for RMA. One kept detaching randomly and other value of 2 for
"elements in grown defect list" after running smart and bad blocks.

Hey Zack, thanks for this info! Can you share your testing process/what software you used?

Thanks!

Opened RMA with OWC through my account on their website. You can RMA within 30 days of purchase.

Used freenas VM on ESXI, see: Hard Drive Burn-In Testing - Discussion Thread

Given that these drives run so hot, its a good idea to do a burn in for errors and monitoring temps. Was finally able to get mine down to around 104-113 F after putting a 120 mm high rpm fan directly on the enclosure. This is from them going all the way up to 158 F

Finally, I have sometime today, took the two 1.6TB drive out of the shipping box to run a quick smart scan ,
and crystaldiskmark test.

Install the 1.6TB SSD into SM 1u chassis.
the 1.6TB drives firmware is version M018 , temperate during IO test was 34 degree C.
Second drive temp was 39 degree C

Question:
How do I update the firmware?
I downloaded S6xxDC_Mx19_All_StorageExecutive_fwbin_ver2 zipfile

The storage executive application scans and provides the option to update firmware. I guess the direct firmware downloads are required if not using a Windows machine/VM to update.

See:
sorry for replying to my own thread but I wanted to get this sorted before the weekend! I found some sw on micron's site called storage executive: https://www.micron.com/products/solid-state-drives/storage-executive-software

This sw was at least able to show the temp (54C!) and some basic info. It also allowed me to upgrade to the latest firmware pretty easily. It checks to see if you have the latest and then prompts to upgrade to a newer version if available. If the machine is connected to the internet, it will automatically update. My 3.2TB drive was at M017 and it upgraded to M019. I was testing this on an openbench and ran some benchmarks. the drive got up to 54c so i put a small fan on it and it cooled back down to 39c.
hope this helps.
