Pardon the Interruption…

Barebones 3.5” SBC style mobo with dual NIC, dual HDMI, and USB 3/2.

I’m kicking myself for selling all my random 4/8GB SODIMMs before everything launched off.

I feel this counts as a good deal though especially if you can get it for less with an offer. If you have existing parts you just need the power supply and you’re good to go!

I’m so tempted just to make use of my 3D printer and try my hand at a custom case for this.

I'm interested, but the picture doesn't depict where the DC jack is for this? The photo is the same on Newegg. Also, "yay" mSATA

Oh shoot haha you just brought that to my attention. Based on the QBiP-6412A on the mfg website, which is similar but not exact- looks to be some 4 Pin DC in JST type header. On the listed board, I think it’s that 4 pin tan connector to the top left of the 2280 M2 screw.

just great lol  anyone have experience with this type of power connector?

Looking at the photos it seems that the power comes from a JST-type connector in the bottom left corner right at the end of the 2280 m2 slot

Interesting, but how would you go about cooling the CPU? What other components would need cooling as well?

These are adorable. If I had a way to power it and any conceivable need for it I would snatch one up.

Just this morning, I was inventorying all the gear in my stash that wasn't in use, and for probably the 6th time, came across this stack of DDR4 SO-DIMMS that I've had sitting idle for... idk... 3 years? I was actually researching how much I might sell em for *TODAY*.

... Then you posted this, and now not only am I keeping all the RAM, I've got a whack-load of tiny MB's coming my way, and yet another project added to my list (cluster build with em). Gee. Thanks.

Looks like the CPU is somewhere between rpi4 and rpi5 in performance, though with a lot better IO for homelab unless you want GPIO pins.

If you already have crimpers, plugs and wires to create the necessary cabling then it could be a great project board with some 3D printing. With a Mini PCIe to SATA adapter you could extend the storage capabilities while still keeping the M.2 NVMe for faster needs.

But if you’re not into building something custom out of it then maybe the $100 prebuilts linked above is a better deal.

EDIT: According to BlueFox's sales thread above it even has GPIO, so very good for labbing as well.

between rpi4 and rpi5
Between the rpi 4 and rpi 5, there is the Atom x5-Z8350 CPU (x86 based Dell Wyse 3040)
However, the J6412 offers significantly higher performance and more PCIe lanes than rpi arm CPUs

This is not a great deal, IMHO. The CPU is quite weak, for a $35 budget you can find other motherboards with much more powerful CPUs:
e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334057710656
e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394050852070
e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394073030304 (more expensive but includes 16GB RAM)
And including a heat sink: e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/366347107893 (has ThunderBolt 3 and apparently supports ECC SODIMMs, also has an Nvidia dGPU even though the seller doesn't mention this)

These kind of deals come and go with some regularity, just check the eBay sellers every couple of weeks. A few months ago the same seller as above had HP ProBook 445 G7 motherboards with Ryzen 5 4500U and heat sink for $30. I just mount them between some 2mm plexi using motherboard stand-offs. If you have access to a 3D printer even easier.

If you are buying a laptop motherboard, just keep in mind the power button might not be on the motherboard but on a daughterboard, and those can be expensive. Looking up schematics/boardview before buying is recommended ;)

Just bought on of the Senecas. Need a backup for my OPNsense router. This on's a little bit more powerful than my current box and it comes with a 64GB NVMe drive. What's not to love?

agreed, the real deal for that board is definitely the listing you mention with the case, storage, and ram!

but now, pandoras box has been opened looking at those laptop boards mwahaha - the HP ZBook G3 is looking sooo tempting

It has dual m.2 M-key slots which I imagine are PCIe 3.0x4, you could use one for a boot drive and one with an adapter for a 10G NIC (or a Bluefield2 for extra style points.)

In case people still want a dual-NIC mini PC in this price range.

Azulle BYTE4 Mini PC Intel Celeron J4125 2.0GHz 64GB eMMC 4GB DDR4 ($38 OBO, no PSU): https://www.ebay.com/itm/206046980872

$44.50 OBO With PSU: https://www.ebay.com/itm/205798875520

Has EMMC and two DDR4 SODIMM slots. SATA connector is visible in the seller's photos if you want to expand storage.

Haven't bought any, can't vouch for the seller but price is okay-ish for the use-case.

Interesting. CPU is similar to Wyse 5070 J4105. Despite the higher GHz, the J4125 has about the same Passmark. Compred to the Wyse, the Azulle has fewer video ports, but it has 2 Ethernet ports standard (versus 1 standard / 1 optional for the Wyse). The Wyse uses a 19.5V, 65W or 90W power supply; the Azulle uses a 12V, 24W power supply. Yikes, I hope that's enough. The Azulle has optional PoE power input! It looks like these eBay listings don't have it. I'm not sure but it looks like the PoE module would plug in to the two 4-pin headers, one near the CMOS battery and the other near the PoE-labelled Ethernet jack. The PoE module is $25 direct from Azulle, $36 including shipping.
