While not exactly a bargain this seller accepted an offer $155 per module for 2 modules:

Given current RAM prices this was less than half the price I could find anywhere else and last year DDR4-3200 ECC UDIMM was fairly expensive compared to RDIMMs.

We know pricing is out of control...

But to remind everyone of where we were, I bought these new for $79/ea back in the day. Most expensive 8x sticks I've ever bought.

Not cheap enough? If you go back 3 years or so in this particular forum, you'll find a Micron dump of 1000 pieces for $30/ea. I got 20 back then, and continue to use them to this day in various gaming, desktop, and servers between the homelan and kids' machines.

We will be stuck on DDR4 3200 ECC UDIMMs for a long long while. The 5800X3Ds are still kicking ass and the 5000 threadripper pro takes them as well.

Last year I bought 32GB DDR4-3200 RDIMM for like $40 a piece, ECC UDIMM were around twice that. I bought the a pair of 32GB ECC UDIMMs for $145 last August.

I sold a few of these for ~$60 last year since I wasn't using them, oh the pain...

and they were at one point ~$60 direct from the crucial website with that iconic 10% new member discount.

I mean, we can go back further... I bought a lot of 32GB 2133 RDIMM new for 150-200$+
It's what 32GB DIMMS used to cost (AND MORE) for DDR4 new, common.

After E5 XEON and others (ddr4 systems) used by hyperscalers and supercomputers were scrapped that's what caused this insane ddr3 and ddr4 price drop, this was NEVER normal prior, at all, even during usual RAM boom or bust cycles.

$150 for 32GB 3200 ECC UDIMM isn't that bad right now IMO, just a couple years ago $60-80 was a 'good deal' on that, look on this forum for those deals being shared.

While I wish we could all buy RAM for cheap it means there's more business opportunities for old hardware and software now vs. before so for us in tech it's actually not such a horrible thing outside of our own personal needs. For direct\indirect usage it's passed to the consumer anyway, ie: web hosting and saas pricing.

I don't. So many scalpers got a hold of these versus users--ebay was flooded with them months after all of them were sold. :( If I would have had 20/20 highsight I would have bought the whole lot and then sold them today at crazy prices. It's crazy to see a $29 part have a 5x+ increase in price in <4 years, but here we are. Same thing happened with drives during the chia craze but not as extreme of an increase.

I wonder how many people out there are buying and selling lots of these like in the commodities/futures markets (pork bellies, etc). 5x is a killer return even over 10 years moreless 4...

4 years? Man, I saw 64GB 3200 RDIMM being sold locally for 60 euros. That was last summer... Now? They got sold for 600 (yes).
Yep! Those are even more crazy! 64GB modules are really out there now. o_O Now that's some serious gouging money for sure! 10x modules at 60/ea would have been 600, and now the same modules are worth 6000, that's 7400 in profit on an initial investment that's a fraction of it. It's almost like winning at wallstreetbets.

I wouldn't go that far. This was a few years ago so my memory may be a bit hazy... I bought some GME stock (300 shares at ~20/share so $6k investment) but wrote calls against it because I wasn't a true believer and wanted some downside protection. When the legendary squeeze happened, I think I made like $4k when the shares were called away. If I hadn't written the calls I could've made like $100K  depending on when I sold.

1600% return in FIVE DAYS.

Talking about kicking yourself...

I wonder is they gonna start doing memory modules in the west again - anytime soon? If the AI gets our pants down, what would happen in a time of crisis?

If anything is going to catch us with our pants down, it'll be China invading Taiwan. Still a relatively low probability event, but with us being "busy" in Iran they could take advantage.
