I'm interested in moving most of my desktops to 2.5Gbit (many don't have > x1 slot free) so have been buying some 2.5Gbit nics from $15-$20. This switch should be a nice complement and uplink into your 10Gbit/s infrastructure & has some verrry basic Layer 2 features.

I haven't seen a switch like this, so this may be interesting for some people who want faster than > 1Gbit/s and don't want to run fiber or high power/10Gbit/s nics.

Also: there is an 8x1G & 4x10G(copper) for $299 as well:

Make sure you loook down and to the right to get the sold-by-amazon one for $300 and not pay $326

I think that depends on what you need. The one you linked only has 1x10Gb/s port, and only 6 ports > 1G total.

The prices on the netgear have gone up quite a bit and there is an updated version of these with all 2.5G ports.
I needed POE and the netgear actually has 2 10G ports (1 on SFP+) so the MS510TXPP for $180 back then was a far better deal...

Where and when was it $180??

Oops it seems I remembered it wrong. It was $260ish. I bought a bunch of them planning to replace unifi switches and ended up reselling a few. $180 was for the non POE version on Amazon roughly 6 months ago.

This is the updated version I spoke about Smart Switches - MS510TXUP | NETGEAR
Not sure what pricing it will have...

The QNAP is not bad but would not be my pick.

Edit: The new Netgear is $600 with POE.

The QNAP switches have 2 year warranties, but the Netgear switches have lifetime warranties...

QNAP switches aren't very good. I had one and it took ages to convince them there was an issue with their implementation of flow control. speeds were capped at 6.5G instead of 10G

Nobody should be using flow control in 2021, honestly. Is there an option to turn it off?

I kinda dislike the fan on the QNAP. I get that they might need one, but the built-in fan is annoyingly audible and can't easily be replaced (weird shape drilled in the aluminum cooler)
