Hi All,

Currently upgrading my NAS from V1 / V2 Server gear to something more modern now that prices have came down a little on the second hand market.

Currently got a really good price on a ASUS Z10PA-D8 Motherboard and I am pondering whether to stick with

1 x 1650v3 CPU @ 3.4Ghz 6C/12T or go with
2 x Intel 2667v3 CPUs or even one of those? at 8C/16T and 3.2Ghz?
64GB of RAM at the moment.

Use case at the moment is in a ESXI whitebox running a pile of VMs, Nothing too strenuous as well as NAS duty running FreeNAS. Advantages for 2 CPUs is extra porcessing power and access to more RAM slots but at the cost of another 120w of TDP.

Guess I just want a second opinion :)

I got Z10PE-D16 WS and it works perfectly fine with Dual Xeons. I'm not worried about power usage, it's pretty efficient when idling.
You can always start with single Xeon and add another one later. It's easier then selling 1650v3
