looking for a quiet 2U active heatsink to be used in a SC-826 that uses a push pull configuration. I'm currently using a noctua nh-l9. The only one I could find is a Dynatron CPU Cooler K666 2U LGA1156/1155 Aluminum Heatsink/ Fan Retail Amazon.com: Dynatron CPU Cooler K666 2U LGA1156/1155 Aluminum Heatsink/ Fan Retail: Computers & Accessories

All supermicro and Intel coolers I could find are top down.
Tough market segment you are shopping - I've been there and feel your pain.

This may not be the most efficient way to achieve your objective, but what about a 2U SuperNoctua Active CPU Heat Sink? Never heard of it? Well me either, but I made a pair once. Ingredients:

I lined up the specs for you below and while you get a silent fan that measures only 37% of the Nidec's dB(A) and registers a similar 36% of max RPM, the performance trade offs are huge: (a) air flow @ 40% of the Nidec (in line), but the static pressure is a paltry 11% of the Nidec.

SNK-P0048AP4 fan =Nidec UltraFlo H60T12BHA7-57
  • Max Speed: 8400 RPM
  • Max Airflow = 43.1 CFM
  • Max Static Pressure = 0.83 in H₂O
  • Max Sound Pressure = 52dB(A)
NF-A6x25 PWM
  1. Max Speed: 3000 RPM (+/- 10%)
  2. Max Airflow = 17.2 CFM
  3. Max Static Pressure = 0.09 in H₂O
  4. Max Sound Pressure = 19.3 dB(A)
I tried the conversion, but wasn't happy with the temperature increase of 2 x E5-2680 v2 with the "SuperNoctua" and ended up returning the SNK-P0048AP4 to its unmodified state. Depending on the TDP of the CPU you are using and your inclination to spend an incremental ~$15 on a quieter fan, it may be an option.

[hopefully this is of some help or at least you laughed at the photochop :)]

That's what I'm planning to use. I guess I can remove the stock fan and use it as a passive heatsink with the backplane fans blowing on it? I think it can also be used inside an air shroud

I don't want to necro but I found this thread while searching for a 2U cooler for my LGA1151 system and found some so I figured I post to help anyone else that finds this thread. The Dynatron K650 and the Dynatron K666 are both LGA1151 2U coolers. Replace the fan with a Notcua NF-A6x25 PWM and you're in business.
