have you a real VGA monitor plugged ?
its real analog VGA. most adapters don't work.
e.g. VGA -> DVI adapter need rgb support from monitor, this feature is rare nowadays.

so the vga in the BMC chip works fine.
I have and it didn't work, but i'll try again. My testbench uses a VGA -> HDMI adapter that's worked on everything I've used it on. Including servers with the same AST2500 chip.

you are alone with that issue, i guess its not the board.
but its possible to get two ina row with defective vga plug,
the 15pin part used is well known to get broken if VGA cable bent up/down too much.

Ok, i'm an idiot. Plugged it into a monitor with a standard VGA cable and now it works. I swear I tried that before but I must of used the same adapter but just with a different monitor. (not sure why it has an issue on these boards but other boards with AST2500 chips work perfectly fine)

So anyone following along, if you don't get VGA output and you're using a VGA adapter.. try using a monitor with a standard VGA cable.

I can plug in for HDD light and when I plug the power on my case they light up but then go off , But I can't get the power button or reset button working. No VGA right now I have a real vga connection , I'm kinda stuck.

It's also like I don't have enuff power. When I plug in the extra 4 ping on the 8 pin it spins the fan then 15 seconds later it detects the dvd and the light on the dvd goes out and then only the nic is alive. The power supply is 250 watts

you need the 4pin(+5VSB) to 24pin Adpater AND the 8pin(+12) plugged.
if all plugged press pwr.btn.

@RolloZ170 beat me to it while I was writing my own response :p

@RacerX to clarify, the 24 pin to 4 pin converter doesn't power the board. It only provides the standby power needed for the power supply to react to the power button press and power up the system.

It sounds like you don't have all 8 pins on the 8 pin socket connected? You only have 4? That 8 pin connector commonly referred to as "EPS12V", "ATX 12V 8-pin", "CPU 8-pin", or "4+4" is what actually powers the board. I don't recall the official names for these, but you get the idea. If you don't have all 8 pins engaged then your board may not (probably won't?) power up. If you don't have all 8 pins connected, your BMC may not (probably wont?) work either, even if you have the correct password. You mention that you have "two extra 4 pin" . Those ought to work, as they are probably the "4+4" type. Try to switch them around in the socket. The pin housing on the two halves aren't identical, just like the two halves of the socket itself aren't identical. They will only fit one way when you insert them both. Without all 8 of the pins connected on that socket, you have no way of knowing if the board is bad or not.
