Noticed that Intel has designated the D-1507/1508/1509/1517 as "Pentium" rather than "Xeon" like the rest of the D-1500 series.

The only material difference that I can find is that these parts appear to have memory speeds capped at DDR4-1600. But Intel caps memory speeds on the low end of the E5 line too.

Wonder if there are any real differences here or if its just pure marketing?

I think the D1508 is a hell of a sweet spot for a small server.

Hmmmm, it could be super tempting to try that board out in a dual VM (UnRAID + Napp-it) storage server.

Press release with the whole SM product announcement, including links to all the product pages.

I'm thinking this guy (the one @Patrick already highlighted above) is the sweet spot for the Ceph cluster I'm building: Supermicro | Products | Motherboards | Xeon® Boards | X10SDV-2C-TP4F.

Really looking forward to pricing and availability.
I will see what I can do on that this week. Just finished the Supermicro X10SDV-7TP8F review which is at the other end of the spectrum. I can see how the Pentium D line could be very intriguing if you just want to get a bunch of nodes for a Ceph cluster.

I need almost zero compute horsepower for this app (ok, not zero, but nothing special). Was leaning towards C2550/2558 boards but was at a loss for how to get an 8-port LSI SAS HBA and 10Gbe with only 12 lanes of PCIe available on the mATX boards.

The flexATX D-1508 boards seems perfect. 10Gbe on boards and PCIe available for the HBA. Would be nice if the LSI chip was on-board, but I don't like the 16-port chip they seem to have built this board-set around anyway.

Unless its priced stupid. Or if availability isn't for 6 more months. Either one of those would just suck.

And I was just asking where the other boards are... Depending on price they may make really good storage boxes...

@PigLover if you don't like the hba get the version without and use pcie one since the 10g is already onboard.
