Does anyone actually run a HBA off the m2->pcie adapter like the one above? If I ran out of x8's, I'd use the useless x1's with an adapter or use the IBM H1110. I currently run the H1110 off of x1 for 3.5 hdd's

That's exactly why I suggested/specified the open-ended slot version. I have a plan/project to use 2 of them, one for HBA (9207-4i4e) and one for NIC (CX3), (both via riser cables so they can be mounted in unused case slots for external access). But, no, I haven't yet "actually run" it, but I AM totally confident in its viability.

Any doubts/reservations? [or are you from Missouri? the Show Me state]

chenbro and intel sas expander cards don't need pci-e slot for power. you can power these 2 cards with 4pin hdd molex connector.

just some example's




my fovourite card ?? chenbro, because it has small fan on chipset heatsink to keep it reasonable cool

Can't be a single ASM1166 as this chip has on 6 SATA ports
I like the concept if it works..

any clue ?

looks too simple to be equivalent to qnap qxp-800es-a1164 but for internal..
