2016 vs. 2019 Hyper-V

I know my hardware is all 2016 friendly, as I am running it all already in a separate installation on metal.

My question is, is there anything that I would be missing from 2019 if I chose to just deploy 2016 Hyper-V Server ?

I should also add, this will be an edge installation for PFsense and misc. SDN/Security etc.

If I have never deployed either, is 2016 'good enough' ? or is it worth a possible hardware stability gamble going 2019 ?

I haven’t noticed any difference in hyper-v between 2016 and 2019. I think 2019 was a minor update, fixing the UI a little bit, cloud seems to be the focus for Microsoft now.

Windows Server/Hyper-V 2019 have some nice improvements that are not that noticeable in the release notes, but can make a huge difference if you really need it.
For example support for >64KB cluster sizes and >256TB volumes: NTFS overview

Thank you. I appreciate the info. Exactly what I was looking for.

Regardless, it looks like neither 2016 nor 2019 will install on the hardware that I have. Both halting at a driver installation prompt prior to installation drive selection and nothing that I tried or driver that I tried to apply, worked.

The box is however currently up and running ESXi 6.7 and all hardware is recognized and installed, including the 2 old obscure Intel onboard Gbe NICs and the Realtek 2.5Gb nics.
