Yes. Seagate started selling 18TB hdds in 2020, at worst these drives are ~3 years old
Generally, the larger Seagate drives seemed to have a higher return rate as there were a lot of refurbished drives shortly after drive sizes of 16/18/20/22 were introduced. That being said however, I got 5x 16TB Exos when they were very new and have had zero issues.

A big apprehension comes from the seller, which if they are playing shell games with companies and bait and switch with product descriptions and warranties, is definitely a gamble.

Where is it written warranty is from the seller? I wouldn't expect any seller to give 2 year warranty.

Hi all - created an account today due to all of the referrals we saw from servethehome this week. Thanks for posting Bert!

To provide some clarity about the warranty - we provide 2 year warranties on all 3.5" Recertified condition HDD's. These 18TB recert drives do not have a warranty from Seagate.

I had 6 of the X16s and 3 of them failed in under a year. I ain't risking my data on stressed drives :)

17x x16 sata retail hdds here; ~24k hours and ~42 start/stop per hdd
0 failures
That's about the same as the workload on mine. FWIW, they sound the same as my HGST/WD enterprise drives and seem to be just as robust. Keep in mind that Seagate makes nearly 50% of the 2.5" sas drives in most servers, so it's not the brand.

+1. And to be clear, no disparagement of SPD intended here. They seem legit, their site has been around since 2013 it appears, I'm not aware of any complaints. I"m sure they appreciate "STH effect" traffic their way. The point is understand what you're buying with these types of products.

In greymarket IT resale, the muddying and conflation of terms like "manufacturer recertified" and "warranty" on same product page on manufacturer-warrantyless products is deliberate. Greymarket IT trades on that ambiguity. However:

- A manufacturer warranty is generally a legal declaration with binding properties, a customer has some measure of leverage and recourse if it's not honored.
- A seller "warranty" is just a word. A customer has no real leverage or recourse if seller deletes customer's email, or doesn't answer phone, or their website suddenly goes 404, or they otherwise don't reply to a replacement request.

So you just have to factor that into the calculus when considering a price.

New. But they were from the expansions. Maybe those were lower binned. Definitely SN02 firmware though.
Interesting. A lot of people shucked these so interesting to hear your experience. I got mine as retail new and they look identical. I guess you can't judge a drive by its cover, lol!
