Hi,looking to buy a 16 port switch either Dell or HP. It's going to be used so HP has better warranty but is much more expensive. Is it worth it?

Dell Powerconnect 2716 ($100) and HP ProCurve 1410-16G (about $190.) Just need basic switch for storage network. Link ag would be good too. Nothing fancy.

Well the HP is an unmanaged switch. (i.e. No configuration options: Link Ag, VLANs, etc.) The Dell is a web managed switch with a lot of features. I have the 2716 and its perfect. Does not have every enterprise feature but has a lot of options and good performance.

Im not sure why the HP is so much more other than HP is usually overpriced IMO.

Agree with nitrobass. I actually have the 2708, 2716, and 2724 among others. They work great, are super stable. The features do vary a bit, and if you think you need more LAN ports, you may look at the 2724 also.

The 27xx switches have been replaced by the 28xx series, whereas I think the HP is a current model. That's probably why there's such a price difference (and I'd like to know where people are getting brand new 2716s for $100). The Dell 2816 is up around the $200 range like the HP.
