Not saying that I can confirm if they are SMR. But helium doesn't conflict with SMR, you could end up having both.

Bought 2, ran them through UnRAID's preclear plugins. Getting full 180ish mbps on USB 3.0 ports with Read AND Write across all parts of the stress test. If these are SMR they are utterly fooling me with these speeds.

Great to hear it! How warm are they? If they are decently cool, then I think we've confirmed they are a helium drive. :)

These are in the 50C (125F) range (52,54 right now) while doing a POST-Read test while still in the enclosure.
No idea if that's HE or not.

Pretty sure they cant produce 14TB drives without helium now. (And yes. This is likely a 14TB drive that looks like 12TB)

I didn’t buy and open. But there was some /r/data hoarder link that showed the P/N was identical to a 14Gb drive. Isn’t it linked in this post somewhere?

I read that Datahoarder thread and these disks could be rebinned 14TB drives with bad sectors. Wouldn't surprise me at all honestly. If the firmware comes available I wouldn't mind buying one or 2 to reflash and see what happens then claim ignorance and a warranty replacment.

That sounds pretty cool considering there's no fan at all on the enclosure.

0x16 Current Helium Level

High
Specific to He8 drives from HGST. This value measures the helium inside of the drive specific to this manufacturer. It is a pre-fail attribute that trips once the drive detects that the internal environment is out of specification.[30]

At this point I think everyone has at least a 10TB, 8Tb, or 12TB of these, lol. But that's not the point. :D
I mean I've just bought a bunch of 8s at $120 to replace the old array. Not sure how to fit any other size into it now.
