So as 2017 draws to a close, does this processor still have a place? 12 cores is nice, but sub 2 gHz, E5 V2 is nice, 30 m cache is nice, $127 is an okay price I guess...So what would be its function?

File server?

I buy hardware only when I need it :D

If you have a first gen 2011 socket mainboard, ram etc. and want to play with virtualization go for it. Otherwise save the money.

I would rather just get E5 2650 v2 SR1A8 or E5 2680 v2 SR1A6

There are very few application that benefits from many cores. I use my E5 2696 v2 for analytics with Clickhouse, but I'm mostly IO bound even at 12 Gigabytes per second (reading from many SATA ssds).

I really want those E5-2680 V2 to hit $300 for a pair :)

I've put in offers on ebay and no one is accepting under $165 it would seem!

You can impresz people by taking a pic of how many cores you got..lol

But if its true this only turbo up to 2.0ghz for all 12 cores then yr better off getting 2660 v2 for same or slightly less as pee current ebay price
