I am currently using four ConnectX-2 cards connected to a Dell PowerConnect 6248 switch via SFP+ ports and I would like to add more hosts as cheaply as possible.

While I could always buy another 6248 off of eBay for ~$60, it seems inefficient to add a new device for 3 additional ports.

Are there any managed SFP+ switches out there for cheap?

2xSFP+ ports are readily available, 4xSFP+ ports is hard, and more than that not possible for that price.

2xSFP+ for cheap LB4M's are under $50 now

4xSFP+ harder to reliably come by, there's one of deals for sub $150 occasionally on ebay.

>4SFP+ ports, as of late I've been seeing a lot of EOL'd Arista gear go fairly cheap (noisy tho), the DCS-7124S' give 48x SFP+ ports for under $350.

Brocade ICX6450 - full layer3 including OSPF and IPV6, 4x 10gbE SFP+ and 24/48 ports copper. around $100 used on ebay. Is near silent and only draws 25 watts (1/4th of what an LB4M draws)

for more than that, ICX6610 - $300, full L3 including BGP, VRFs, tunnels etc, 16x 10gbE, 2x 40gbE, 48x copper, not too loud

I see that the Ebay listings for ICX6610 says 1 Gbps for the SFP+ ports, do you need a license upgrade to get 10Gbps?

That is nice if you! I am thinking about getting the ICX 6450, as it is very power efficient and 4x 10G slots fits me perfectly today. Though the ICX 6610 with additional 40G is interesting too, but power consumption is above 100watt even at idle according to the documentation.

Both are very powerful pieces of kit, but you're right, my 6610 sits at about 100w dead even idle, about 110w with a few ports active. ICX6450 sits at 20w idle, 25w with a few ports active - makes sense though, the 6610 has 12 more 10gbE ports and some 40gbE to play with :p (the software for both of them is also freely available and under active development, last release was a week ago)

Would Brocade ICX 6450 work alone side Unifi set up? Would I have to remove all 'smart' features from it in order for it to work along side Ubiquiti?

I have US-24 at home with few access points and would like to add 10G speeds on both NAS (qnap ts-932x most likely) and home PC as well as expose NAS to other data users on my network.

Thank you for your help

it doesn't come with any "smart" features turned on (I assume you mean things like DHCP). out of the box with a basic config it's just a typical switch with all ports in the same default VLAN, should work with anything

Thank you, appreciated - yes, DHCP was one of the features I was thinking about. Had fun experiences with turning switch on and having devices on the network finding themselves with new IP addresses.

If I may , any recommendations for SFP+ cards to run under Windows 10 (Asrock X370 taichi MB) ? plus cable from monoprice, correct?

Both the 6450 and 6610 work with Unifi gear without issues. If you are using VLANs, you will need to set them up in the 6450 as well. Otherwise if it's a flat network, then just plug and play.
