I wish the prices of QSFP28 cables and transceivers are better
Does anyone know if they will run in 40gbps speed or it has to be 100gbps
from the specs they didnt mention that the port speed can be downgraded

You can get pretty cheap qsfp28 cables if you are on the lookout, but they should be able to go down to 40 or even 10 without issues.

Got the switch. Has a custom OS on it, with Grub no ONIE. Gonna get some spare SATADOMs and do a backup before I tinker. Picture to come soon

When you get a chance can you post the power consumption if you can measure it, the sound (if it's reasonable for a homelab), and processor (and revision if possible if it's an x86 Atom).

Yes, so far the discovery is:

Sound is decent loud, but in a garage or closest its fine, however thats with the original OS which has fan and i2c control. The processor is a C2538 with Stepping B, meaning it is suseptical to the i2c/gpio clock bug.

Dont have devices to measure power consumption at home, i'm working on getting ONIE installed on it so I can work on running SONiC or at minimum porting it over.

Think I might have to call it quits on this thing. Compiled ONIE from source and installed SONiC ended up taking a few tries and needing to modify some bits related to HWSKU and platform detection, but it seems like Invetec's kernel patches for their i2c driver and implementation isn't working anymore, or at least on this device.

Does the switch still work with the stock firmware? Did you get the login for it?

Also have you tried an older version of sonic? Since the switch is old it might work. I ordered one as well for my lab. Can you post how you built and installed onie?

You should reach out to the group that created the patch at Inventec: swsp@inventec.com and other individuals who contributed. They should have advice on what version of SONiC their code works on; but it could be a combination of what's on their own and official SONiC as the debian modules are different even though they are both 1.0.0.

Got it now and testing. it only came with onie. installed different versions of Sonic and 2018.03 almost wortks. But the main problem is that onie doesnt have the correct info so then sonic doesnt detect the hardware. Did manually create a config but it doesnt work. Will try to create a new onie.

Got it fully working now, had to edit /host/machine.conf:
onie_version=tao-201607180027
onie_vendor_id=6569
onie_platform=x86_64-inventec_d7032q28b-r0
onie_machine=INVENTEC-D7032Q28B-C32
onie_machine_rev=0
onie_arch=x86_64
onie_config_version=1
onie_build_date="2016-07-18T01:06-0700"
onie_partition_type=gpt
onie_kernel_version=3.2.35

then reninstall sonic
sudo sonic_installer install https://sonic-jenkins.westus2.cloud...ssfulBuild/artifact/target/sonic-broadcom.bin

and boot this:
SONiC-OS-HEAD.168-b6ae12b

Will maybe try an upgrade in the future but i have to make an image backup since it is now working. I might also buy a new sata dom.
