This seller as 3, 4 & 6 TB SAS drives all OBO
I have no idea of total bytes written.

3TB $28 HGST
4TB $50 HGST
6TB $77 Seagate SAS3 (12GB)

accepted offer of $60 each for 10 x 6TB
bought 4TB SAS earlier in 2018 for $50 so expecting lower ~$40
2TB SAS are already at $20 OBO in several auctions so not listed here.

nice, tks!

i’d love to pull the trigger on those 6 TB drives (even though I’m not a big fan of Seagate HDD’s in terms of reliability), however unfortunately they idle at around 8.4 W, and can get up to 12 or 13 W under load !

(As a point of comparison, 4tb Western Digital RED drives, although 5400 rpm’s, idle around 3w and sell used on eBay for $70 to $100, I think for that low power reason )

hats off to seagate, for providing a ton of detail on these drives power usage, I’ve never seen such detailed stats from a HDD manufacturer on power usage (see page 23) https://www.seagate.com/www-content/product-content/enterprise-hdd-fam/enterprise-capacity-3-5-hdd/constellation-es-4/en-us/docs/100726011c.pdf#page24

Seagate used to be the top quality storage manufacturer in the world with a lot of firsts like the 10k and 15k drives. After many decades of just hanging in there, I see them trying to get back to the top--if Mr. Shugart was still alive, he'd be happy to see that. I can only imagine how crushed he was the day he was kicked out the company he built and then watched his company slide into mediocrity.

Power usage is a very good point, and 20 of these will make an impact on my power bill. Not to mention that 6TB drives are still small.
I have a bunch of 2TB drives, no desperate need for more space the next year I think. My plan is to replace them with 4 20TB drivers when they arrive :D

Won’t be too long for 20tb, have 16tb on the market now. Hard to believe 8tb is looking small now. One of the easiest ways to reduce power consumption if using disks is to just use less bigger ones.

We recently scrapped our first IBM PC - with a 20 megabyte harddrive ;) (no it has not been in use for a while, though it ran for close to 15 years)

You will need a 68-pin SCSI cable to go with that.
Still available here ... making me nostalgic for my old Adaptec cards.

I literally just put two of those into my "to be recycled" ewaste bucket over the weekend. I still had sleeved/round floppy, ide and sata ribbon cables in "computer cables" box in the garage. I think this is the first time I've purged the old stuff from that box in the last two decades.

No value in hoarding that stuff at all, I don’t even fee nostalgic about it any more.
Best thing to do is recycle to save mining new material

It wasn't intentional hoarding, they'd just worked their way to the bottom of the box and been forgotten about. When you have a basement and a garage to store things sometimes they disappear for a decade or two.

Yeah apartment living and renting certainly changes your view on what to keep or not.

It doesn’t matter anyway if you keep something 1yr or 10yrs before you move it along you can be almost 100% sure that you need it just after you no longer have it. Haha

I probably will could have used those. I still have a Mylex DAC960SUI that's still working.

It has 5 drive channels so almost 45 drives could be attached to it.

No longer a good deal, now at $15/TB for the 6TB drives. Tried to get some for $60 but seller was holding firm at $70 and eventually rescinded their offer.

Seller is local for me, not far from where I live. I am trying to meet and pick up drives which avoids shipping. Less chance of shipping damage from my view.

I'd like a good deal on reliable 3 TB or 4 TB sata drives, anyone know a good deal preferably for the latter?
