Nothing specific, just curious how they work overall so whichever test(s) you run will satisfy my curiosity I'm sure.

Plug in my 1 out 4 LSI Nytro SSD drive into Windows 2016 TP4 server.
Intel server bios recognizde LSI SSD controller, displayed that boot rom was installed.
Windows 2016 booted up, also recognized LSI 1.2TB ( actual size is 117x gb drive ), no driver was installed , I formatted the drive using disk manager.
Ran crystal disk test benchmark.

Not bad for a 1.2TB SSD for $200.
LSI Nytro card bios is old ( year 2013 ), when I have time, I'll update the bios.
Retest with newer bios and driver

No cable was included. I still learning what program / utilities to read the LSI Nytro card status.
It is a nice surprise that it just work out of the box.

Windows 2016 tp4 without installing LSI drivers
Power usage,
Intel server R2312GC4 with Dual E5-2670 , 196gb ram.
Using ipmi PS1 power reading ( single PSU )
Without LSI Nytro card , Windows 2016 idle at 116w
With LSI Nytro card , Windows 2016 idle at 130w
During benchmark testing peak at around 210w

So around 15w at idle increase, and almost 100w during heavy-usage...

How much did CPU utilization go up during benchmark?

when you say boot rom was detected did you try installing an os to it to see if it's bootable? this is sounding very much like an lsi controller+ssd raid on one board more than anything else.

I believed it used LSI 2308 as "front end" controller interface to the SSD controller.
It should be bootable, even the Wrap Drive have a setting to make it BIOS bootable ,
but never got that far to install OS on it.

Got my drive last week, not going to have a chance to drop it into the FreeNAS server until I get back on Thursday. Hopefully with it being LSI based it will just work, but we'll see once I actually try it.

What is the process for flashing new firmware on these drives? Is it similar to LSI controllers?

Flash new firmware is easy, just run ddcli , select flash firmware option. done.
Seems easy enough. I'll probably put in the workstation first to get some testing and updates out of the way before I put it in the server.

Thanks Patrick for the deal.
This is a truly amazing deal for $200 , not the fastest compare to the new PCIe SSD, but it is great for personal use.
Buy 4 LSI SSD 4.8TB for $800, run all 4 SSD in raid10, you would have one kick ass VM storage server.
