    AMD EPYC 7351P + GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 = 7 GPUS?

Hi Guys, I just saw the review on the AMD EPYC 7351P CPU but it did not really go into GPU usage so I thought I would do a post in here to get some feedback and or advice on this. We are looking to build a 7 GPU rack using the EPCY so we can take advantage of the 128 PCIE lanes, basically...

AMD Epyc CPU frequency on linux

tl;dr: How to get AMD core performance boost on linux? Or how to read CPU frequency correctly? My setup consists of two AMD Epyc 7301 (2.2GHz Base, 2.7GHz boost) on a Supermicro H11DSi. I just installed Opensuse Tumbleweed which comes with Kernel version 4.14.2-1-default. uname -a Linux...

128Gb RAM on Threadripper at 2400 Mhz. Can it be done?

Is a Threadripper build with 128GB unbuffered ECC RAM at 2400+ Mhz a realistic goal? Threadripper only takes unbuffered RAM, which really limits my options. here is my problem: I can't do 4x32 Gb sticks because I can't find unregistered ECC 32Gb sticks, much less single rank ones. I could do...

1P AMD EPYC 7601 Power Consumption

Not great but not bad by any means: 351W Decent idle and maximum views of the system today. That is a fairly bare config with 2x SATA SSDs and only using Broadcom networking. No 24x U.2 NVMe drives or NICs installed.

    This just looks funny

Realized I needed this screenshot: It certainly looks funny. 8 NUMA nodes, 4 threads per node. Then again, $450 CPUs.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 96GB and Using 6 Different DIMMs

I had a 4x 16GB DDR4-2800 Patriot Viper kit and a 2x 16GB DDR4-2666 Patriot Viper kit. Moving from dual Intel Xeon E5 V3 to a single TR 1950X CPU without RDIMMs was going to be an issue RAM wise. I followed what I would normally do mixing DIMMs on a server platform. Same DIMMs in the same...

    My September 2017 Workstation Build

Over the labor day weekend I have been working on a new project: building a new workstation. This is the first time in years that I will be moving to a single socket system. For this edition, AMD Threadripper. I think it is important that if I am going to publicly recommend AMD products, that I...

AMD Ryzen06 - How the first colocated Ryzen server has fared

On March 22nd, we installed an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 machine into one of our local colocation racks once we had a "stable" configuration. We do have one rack with shelves just for this type of equipment: That shelf is a bit messy but LEDs in the data center look cool, right? We had a very specific...

Upgrade advice from AMD FX-9590 to Intel or AMD Naples?

Hello, I had built a ESXi system originally with 5.5 on it, but have upgraded to VMWare vSphere 6.5. It runs an FX-9590 processor (220W, but undervolted) with 32GB DDR3 RAM (Max) on an ASRock 990FX Extreme9 board that is also water cooled (trying to quiet it a bit). Also have a 256GB SSD for...

Get ready for Ryzen 5 week!

Just as a heads-up for those waiting, Ryzen 5 "official" launch is April 11. Ingram is shipping a few SKUs early but that is when you will see the majority of the coverage. 4 systems chugging along at STH. Only the Ryzen 5 1400 is still going. Should be an interesting week to say the least

How-to Guide Getting AMD Ryzen Working With Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, 16.10 and older

One of the biggest issues anyone running Ubuntu will have with AMD Ryzen at launch is simply getting a stable system. For example, if you run Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (AMD64) server you will notice systems crash time to time. We have tried both the X370 and B350 based motherboards in 4 different CPU/...
