    Quanta LB6M (10GbE) -- Discussion

Thanks for the measurements - that is a wild range. From almost like normal conversation to LOUDLY yelling. I think it will work fine in my storage room rack.

    Quanta LB6M (10GbE) -- Discussion

Hi All, I am thinking about getting one of these refurb LB6Ms, but how loud are they, really? I have two dell r710s, a super micro SC846 and 8 bay chassis in my rack. They make noise, but the one that takes the cake is the Cisco Nexus 5548 in the rack at work. Geez, I hate going into the...

Supermicro 4u 24 bay chassis with SAS2 expander

If you are looking at the chassis from the rear, it is on the left side. Take a mirror and place it directly behind the backplane (the side facing the chassis fans) reflecting up to see under the metal frame just under the top. The SuperMicro model should be located on the left, upper corner...

Supermicro 4u 24 bay chassis with SAS2 expander

Man, you guys had me freaking out. I bought one of the SC846-E16 units without the motherboard. I knew it said SAS2 backplane in the description, but I could not see the part number due to the backplane mount. I was just getting ready to remove the backplane from the chassis when I found a...

Nexenta Core and Solaris x86 M1015/LSI 9240 driver install

solution found - my own mistake. I thought I had to cd into the imrsas folder for the pkgadd command to find the package. My error, I run the pkgadd command from outside the directory. And I saw another thread that the core dump (arithmetic error) from the Solaris format command can be...

    Firewall for home

I am using the WRVS4400N at home for an access point. The router is feature packed, although I could never get the second SSID/VLAN segmentation to work. It does generate a lot of heat. However, I use Astaro (now Sophos) products for my firewall at work and home.

Nexenta Core and Solaris x86 M1015/LSI 9240 driver install

Hi, I have a Nexenta Core/Napp-it box running in my lab. It is running on a SuperMicro X8SI6-F/core i3 combo. I recently purchased a couple of M1015 controllers to play with and I tried installing the LSI solaris x86 driver. I get the driver uncompressed, unzipped and then try the...

    X8sil-f ram

Hi All, I am bringing a dead thread back to life. I just unboxed a new X8SIL-F, placed it into a SuperMicro 2U chassis and tried to boot with a new X3440 and KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G (X2, 16GB). I get no video and post beep is a single long followed by an estimated 8 short. They go so quickly...

Yeah, the RAM is ECC. I think I will purchase the X3440 for testing at the lab at work and see what happens. Thanks for your reply.

CPU sizing for home ZFS server

Hi - I have been building a ZFS server for home use. I plan on having a raidz vdev for static storage, pics, HD movies, etc. And then striped mirror vdevs for VMWare virtual machines. I am not building an all-in-one with VMWare and ZFS storage in the same box. The ZFS machine will be...

    supermicro X8SI6-F discontinued?

Whew... That makes me feel better. I was hoping I could get one of these boards for a new server at home instead of having to go and buy an alternative and then have to shell out for an LSI SAS2008 controller separately. Glad to know - Thanks.

    supermicro X8SI6-F discontinued?

I ordered two of these boards a week apart. The first one came in after a week. My channel reseller were showing them out of stock. The second one is still back ordered and I see newegg has deactivated them from their site. SM still lists them on their website. Have they been discontinued?

Sun (Oracle) 7xxx series storage servers...

I am using one of these (7110 4TB) units at work for a VMWare datastore. I have it connected to a Dell 2900 series server using NFS. I love the ability to see the analytics on this unit. Do any of the open-source zfs solutions have the ability to do analytics in the capability these units...

X8SI6 - LSI IT mode reflash...

Hi, Patrick - I attempted to reflash my X8SI6-F's SAS controller with the IT firmware and found the limitation of the new version of sas2flsh.exe. I followed a commenter's command line and used the -e 7 parameter to erase the flash. This also erased the WWN from the controller. I wrote...
