Intel Xeon E5-2670 Deal and Price Tracking

Yep, I checked the mobo, indeeed, one 12v and one 3.3V rails are shorted to ground at the 24pin ATX connector! Shit, probably its a 20 cents capacitor failed somewhere, but it is impossible to tell without schematics and there are no obvious cosmetic defects. :( Let's see if I get a...

Intel Xeon E5-2670 Deal and Price Tracking

I bought from ebay but I think is natex. It seems very strange that is a short in the mobo, it worked 2 weeks ago outside the chassis( doesn't work outside the chassis anymore). Is thins a known fact? what is shorted exactly? Alberto (lol I misspelled my own name in the previous post)

S2600CP board - Need a CMOS flash for every boot, where the PSU lost power (on purpose)

I have the same motherboard and basically the same problem. When I received it 3 weeks ago, I tested it and it booted without problem. Now as I was trying to put the system together, it just powers on for a second and the shuts off(sometimes it will repeat it in a loop every few seconds). I...

Supermicro Motherboard doesn't boot on the first time

Actually I open the box to change the CMOS battery, I remove the old battery, then I realized that I didn't have the right battery with me so I put the old one back. I reconfigured the BIOS and now is booting fine again. I'm not sure it is fixed for good. Finger Crossed.

Supermicro Motherboard doesn't boot on the first time

Hi, I have a strange problem with one of my servers, all of them are Supermicro X9SRi. Recently I've lost power on all my servers, as the power came back all of them powered up automatically but one didn't boot, just hang. So I did some test and it seems that if I power off the server, let it...

    SuperMicro & low-RPM fans

A quick and dirty solution is to disconnect the PWM wire, the fan will spin at full speed then use a "low noise adapter"(aka a resistor) to slow down the fan to a reasonable speed. You loose speed control, I personally can live with that. OT: I've been thinking to build a gizmo that multiplies...

    Supermicro and RAM installation

Yep, that's what I've done. Maybe are all those CMOS resets, my experience is mostly with desktop stuff that seems much more forgiving.

    Supermicro and RAM installation

Well, after dancing with the ram a bit more, I finally managed to get it to post. This time I suspect something in the case was shorting a pin. I'm using Samsung "recommended" RAM and this has happened to me with more than one board... I must suck a inserting RAM sticks :) . Anyway, thank you...

    Supermicro and RAM installation

Hi, I'd like to ask a question to the experts. So, I've built only few servers in my life, most of them using Supermicro boards. Every time I built one I've spent hours doing the RAM shuffle dance trying to make the motherboard Post. Today again for the second time this month I had to build a...

    Cisco SG200-50 SLM2048T Managed Switch 48 Ports Gigabit 100$

So, It turns out that you can "dishwash" a switch :D . Everything seems to work just fine(as expected), now is time to upgrade firmware and such. It was quite painless, I think overall I might have spent an hour in total on this switch. For 99$ is pretty good value. I'm tempted to buy another...

What CPU coolers to use with Gigabyte GA-7PESH1 LGA

I just made a build with a single LGA2011. I used a CoolerMaster Hyper T4. The cooler width is more or less the same as the 2011 socket so it would fit(airflow facing the I/O shield). It also fits tall ram as far as you install it before the cooler. The mounting lock mechanism is tool-less. It's...

    Cisco SG200-50 SLM2048T Managed Switch 48 Ports Gigabit 100$

So, I took apart the switch and and washed it in the dishwasher at 45C. Both motherboard and PSU are nice and clean. It's very easy to take apart and other than the RJ45 ports there isn't any place I can see where water could build up. After a 15 min out of the dishwasher 99% of the mobo look...

    Cisco SG200-50 SLM2048T Managed Switch 48 Ports Gigabit 100$

The oil on the switch is much less viscous than vaseline. I think I'm going to remove the cover take out any battery and wash it in the dish washer(seriously). Then let it dry for few days(here in Singapore weather is not gonna take long)

    Cisco SG200-50 SLM2048T Managed Switch 48 Ports Gigabit 100$

Ok I just received the switch. As expected it seems to be sligtly greesy. It is an inhodour mineral oil, very low viscosity. Nothing that some isopropyl alchool cannot fix. I wouln'd buy bulk tought. BTW I haven't test it yet. Alberto
