I really do hate you guys. I come in here and right away my wallet is $500 lighter.
How does this happen?
Offered $75ea for 6 and there was no hesitation...
And apparently the support has been in since the May 22 nightly of 9.10
Add support for ethernet capable Mellanox adapters to FreeNAS 9.10 by justinclift · Pull Request #5 · freenas/freenas-build · GitHub

I had a nice, long post written up about some Mellanox CX4 VPI goodness and FreeNAS but I managed to hit a combination of keys that sent me back a few pages. I need to create longer post write-ups in a text editor first...
Short story is that the older ConnectX VPI cards with CX4...
Of course after going back and forth with offers I made out with $19.50/pair. Bought 64 modules for the HP S6500/SL230s. Even at the asking price it is pretty good.

They claim/appear to be genuine HP. We shall see...
This is basically my plan. I don't think it is going to be very difficult to make drive racks for the sleds that can hold a total of 8x 7mm or 9.5mm drives to connect to the SAS2308 controller. If you were ambitious enough I bet you could do it with 15mm drives as well. Combine that with an...
I'm going to have to play with this when I get home. Although in the end I am not overly concerned as I am planning on building an enclosed, sound deadening rack for some of my gear.
That's pretty much what I thought. Need to mill out some mounts to get 8 sff drives in the back and I'll be happy(er)
Then I just need 10 more cpus and 128 8gb memory modules.
I have fixed them before myself as well. I shattered at least 3 caps so I have no idea what to replace them with. Not even worth trying since Alan Tech had no issue accepting a $30 BO.
Yeah, I think I was only the 2nd person to make an offer and the first of quantity.
I screwed one of mine up yesterday though. Being a dumba$$ I was trying to use a screwdriver to compress the plastic clips holding on the heatsink and managed to shear off about 3-4 of the tiny capacitors.
They are x8 but the pinout is different. I tried one in a Supermicro board last night and it didnt show up but it also didn't fry the board. In comparing the FlexLOM and a normal x8 it appears as though the extra pin spacing for x1 & x4 have been left off and thus moved the actual PCIe...
They certainly can. as they are 40 & 10GB Ethernet adapters.

Should get you there.
Or a QSFP to SFP+ cable.
I have 2 E5-2670's and a pile of 4GB modules so I can test the sleds one at a time. Well, 2 at a time if I only test one socket but that would not be very through, would it? That is as long as the serial port is redirecting properly. I'm waiting on the USB/VGA breakout cable.
