Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

Thank you. Case: SuperMicro CSE-846TQ PSU: Corsair AX850 Cables: Unknown breakout cable smartctl -a output for one of the drives:

Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

The error first ocured when in the server, but they give the same error when they are in another computer. But I'm wondering if this is a "stored error", that is that there might be an "internal counter" that is stored in the drive, which then sends an error when I test it in another computer...

Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

Posted the report from HDDScan: WDC WD60EFRX-68MYMN1-WD-WX51D6427147-SMART.mht So "UltraDMA CRC Error" Disks are out of warranty, so can't return them.

Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

The drives are already "shelved", so the fact that "something might go wrong" isn't really a problem. edit: As a side note, when I run an extended test in WDDLD it passes.

Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

Yes, that's what my research said as well, but when it's happened 5 times with the same scenario I'm starting to wonder. SMART from WDDLD is posted above. From HDDScan I get the following: WDC WD60EFRX-68MYMN1-WD-WX51D6427147-SMART.mht

Is it possible to "re-flash" a WD-Red drive?

I keep running into an issue when I "overfill" my ZFS pools on my FreeNAS-server (past the 80% mark), where the a harddrive starts reporting a SMART-error. This only seems to happen to WD60EFRX drives, and I've had 5 of them with this issue now. When I run WDDLD on them I get the following...

SAS2flsh stuck at "Performing Host Boot"

I am currently trying to update the firmware on a 9202-16e. I ran the -o -e on the first chip without issues. When I ran it on the second I got a message saying "Controller is not operational. A firmware Hostboot is required. I entered the name of the firmware, and it seems as if it flashed...

    Xeon v3 or v4 for X10SRL-F

Ah, did not know that ES meant it was an engineering sample. It is a Freenas-server that also runs Plex. Plex website says it needs (about) a 2000 passmark score per 1080p transcoded stream. 2603 v4 has a score around 8800 So I guess I should be ok with this one then: Intel Xeon E5-2603 V4...

    Xeon v3 or v4 for X10SRL-F

Ok, was able to access the IPMI (without CPU, GPU and license), and got this: So then I take it I should be ok with a v4 correct? I am thinking maybe this: Intel Xeon E5 2623 V4 ES QK3R SR2PJ 4Core 2.6Ghz 10MB 14nm 85W LGA2011-3 CPU | eBay or this: Intel Xeon E5 2609 V4 ES QK3J SR2P1 8C...

    Xeon v3 or v4 for X10SRL-F

Thanks, I'll give the IPMI a try. As for price there is only a $3 difference here in Norway, but I see that they are available for about 50% off on Ebay, so I'll probably pick one up there.

    Xeon v3 or v4 for X10SRL-F

So I recently picked up an X10SRL-F as an upgrade for my file server, and now I'm looking into what CPU and memory to get. But I notice that I need an updated BIOS to run the v4 versions of Xeon. I'm thinking of picking up the e5-2603 since it's the cheapest CPU for the socket, and I don't...

    Ryzen alternative to X10SRL?

Is there any point in waiting for a motherboard that has 2-3 16x slots and 3-5 8x/4x slots for the Ryzen platform or is that unlikely to come any time soon?

Need new chassis for my storage server

Thanks, how low can I expect to find 846/847 chassis with SAS2 backplates? Also, the 846TQ is not SAS2, but it's "direct connect" does that change anything? Doesn't it then come down to what ever SAS-card I'm using?

Need new chassis for my storage server

I'm about to pull the trigger on this one: Supermicro CSE-847 4U 36-Bay w/X8DTN+ 2x Xeon E5520 24GB 2x 1400W PSU NO HDD #76 But does anyone know if it will have any issues with large capacity drives?

Need new chassis for my storage server

Thank you. I think I need SAS2 since all my disks are in the 3-6TB range. (I saw some cheaper models that mentioned that it might not work with 3+TB drives when fully populated, not sure if that's a SAS1 limit or something else). I guess I can work with both a pure expander-chassis as well as...

Need new chassis for my storage server

So, I have been using Norco 4220 and Norco DS-24 as my chassis for a few years now, but it seems that the backplanes are dying on me, so I need to replace them with something new (and not Norco this time around). Because of the crappy exchange rate on the NOK atm my budget isn't all that great...

Ok, thank you once again for both your knowledge and your patience :)

Need guidance on what OS/storage solution to choose for my media server

Ok, I've been playing around with it for a little bit now, but I can't seem to find a way to "pool" two raid-arrays. What I want is to create three raid6 arrays, one with 3 TB drives, one with 4TB and one with 6TB drives, and then have them show up as a single share like you can with vdevs on...

Need guidance on what OS/storage solution to choose for my media server

Ugh, there is always something isn't it? :p But as long as I have everything backed up on "offline disks" that shouldn't be a problem should it? (Other than having to copy everything back to the file server if it crashes.)

Need guidance on what OS/storage solution to choose for my media server

After reading a bit on the Rockstor site as well as the comparison chart on the it seems that I should be looking for something BTRFS-based. It seems to be ZFS-"like", but with the ability to grow pools, so instead of having to buy 10-11 drives when I want need more space, I can buy 3, and then...
