Based on the dell builder, selecting the Epyc 7373x, a 280w cpu which requires a "special heatsink" per the config, I found this mention of an "l-type" heatsink for processors over 180w: Dell R*60 L-type Heat sink (HSK). That led me to eBay, searching for "dell l-type heat sink" which gave me...
Not sure this applies to the R740s, but this is what I did for my R720xd. I had purchased an ex-google search appliance with 26x2.5" drives. I wanted the LFF model, so I purchased a barebones chassis for a R720XD LFF that came with a backplane. I was able to swap everything over to the LFF...
Ideally, i'm hoping to build this once and then never touch it for 5 years. So my thought was going with a 2nd gen xeon just for piece of mind so i don't have to "rebuild" in a few years. But honestly, it's just going to be a standard esxi host with unraid, truenas, and 5-10 VMs. If there isn't...
Hello
I have a Dell R740XD incoming and i'm looking to upgrade the processors from the included Bronze to a second gen silver. The specs show it supports second gen silvers, specifically the 4210 and 4210r, but it does not state it will support the 4210t. Is anyone running a 14th gen Dell with...
I'm trying to figure this out. I purchased an older CyberPower UPS, PR750LCDRTXL2U the other day. 750VA is a bit small, but in doing my research I see that the PR750LCDRTXL2U is the same chassis as the PR1500LCDRTXL2U, so I figured I could buy the 1500 batteries and install them into the 750 and...
I recently purchased 32gb ddr4 udimm ecc from them for what i felt was a stupidly good price. Their ecc udimms are consistently the cheapest on eBay. They've all worked well
Got mine in Friday and finally got a chance to look at the box. Dell R340 with 1 year of NBD support (purchased around May 2021) remaining, idrac 9 enterprise, e-2278g as mentioned, 16gbx2 ddr4 2666 ecc udimm, boss pcie card with 2 x m.2 cards (empty), and software raid. Looks to be a nice system.
Bought 2, Colo is getting an upgrade. No mention of idrac level, rails and looks like software raid. But the price is too good to pass up, especially with the proc 8c/16t and 32gb ddr4 ecc udimms. Thanks @nsummy
Does this drive have a PSID on it somewhere? Sorry, I didn't read the thread close enough.
If you try the drive in truenas and run sedutil-cli --scan, does it give you any indication it is locked? I had to use a H310 in IT mode for my locked drives for sedutil to work.
Hello, I had something similar with 4 HGST SED SAS drives. I had to use a Dell H310 flashed to IT mode with Truenas 13. I opened the shell, did "sedutil-cli --scan" and it saw the drives were locked and then able to use the PSID to unlock. I tried a H330/H730 and had no luck with those.
It works in a prodesk 600 g6, so it should. And definitely confirmed it does not work in a G4 or G5, the connectors on the motherboard and flexio card are different.
A great question.
For me, I paid $100 for 4 drives with shipping/tax. I had to buy a $25 H310 and $15 parted magic (though I got this refunded through amex). I spent about 8 hours on this, maybe a little more, tinkering with this over 5 days. A comparable 8TB SAS HGST is $60
$100 (this deal)...
Following up on this, I did get these drives unlocked, but man was it a pain!
First, a big shout out to @Marsh who helped me through some DMs. I was having trouble with the drive spinning up in anything other than the T330, which made my troubleshooting process incredibly frustrating. He...
Got my "heavy use" tower in yesterday and honestly it is in really good shape. Heavy as hell, but so far it works really well. Happy with this for $350.
