I bought replacement 4 wire fan for my Intel server but seems like connector is different.
I thought "I got it" with RPM/size.
Can I still use this fan? See MB picture with connectors and fan connectors. Blue is OLD. White is new. You see keys are in different places
I am trying to revive old-er server. I got enough memory and CPU for our needs. Looks like I am going to be able to get storage speed I need as well..
So, the only shortcoming so far is obsolete IPMI. I mean it works, as far as power control and monitoring. But jviewer.jnlp doesn't work...
Basically I need some suggestions on what to look for as I have no idea at this point..

I'd like to get opinions/suggestions on building minimal colocation hardware set. Minimal is in terms of rack space, our colo center charges $50/U, I'm not ready for 1/2 rack. But can do 2-3 Us. Also, datacenter is 24/7 15 minutes from home, so I'm not sure if spare server need to be in a rack...
Bought kit to convert chassis from pedestal to rack. Those 2 handles came in a kit. I see how to bolt them on, but I don't understand what those knobs with bolts for?
There is no holes in plastic bezel on my chassis.
I built 2 servers. One is in use now. Idea was to keep second as a spare or on stand-by but I just don't see why would I need it in my current scenario. Hence - it's for sale.
Here is my build thread:
Intel S2600CP/P4000, 2 servers
Basically, I got all parts, built it. Updated BIOS/firmware on...
Folks, what is your suggestion on OS/virtualization/backup setup?
Main goals:
1. Ease of backup and restore. Fastest recovery time.
2. Maximum performance
I develop in Windows/VisualStudio. OS of choice can be W7/8/10. Main problem is that it takes about 2-3 days to get system setup with all of...
I have LSI 9260-8i card I though about using for FreeNAS by flashing to IT mode. I guess not. This card does not support it.
After googling - seems like current "deal" is M1015 cards. But there is fakes, etc. Is that a card I should be looking for? I need one with high profile bracket that...
I guess it's not main question :) I know it will and I have articles from Patrick on this.. But I wanted to see if this will work GOOD given my scenario.
This is for small office (couple users) network share, backups.
I already have experience with FreeNAS at home, but I built hardware from...
Trying to quiet down my P4000M intel chassis. I did everything prescribed with BIOS and it is reasonably quiet. It's got 2 fans, one for expansions area/ram and another for CPU.
And those fans are different according to labels.
By manually stopping them both I figured that source of this very...
I'm re-doing my work environment. Will be using my old-ish desktop I built for development. This is what it's going to be:
ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard
i7-2700K - will overclock to ~4.5
ATI FirePro V5800 graphics
??? storage
I will be running Windows Server 2012 R2 as host system, already...
I need to run Windows in VM locally with full support to GPU, USB, etc - should be minimal overhead.
At the same time I'd like to be able to backup live or near-live.
What can you suggest for Hypervisor and Host OS?
I like how I can keep system backed up using Hyper-V replica. But I can't do...
Ok, I'm currently working in VM(Windows 8) on my MacBook Pro 13. I use VMWare Fusion. My guest OS Win8. I do .NET development, Visual Studio 2012 and XAML..
VM works OK, but we all want more, right? Since I built new server (dual E5-2670, 128Gb RAM - from Deals section) - I was toying with an...
I'm trying to setup Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V so my virtual machines can take advantage of onboard GPU (Remote FX)
I have server. Activated, etc. All is well. Hyper-V works.
There is many manuals online, they all little differ but here is where I'm getting into trouble:
1. In Hyper-V...
Seems I just wasted some money :( I want to have Hyper-V with RemoteFX and got card from the bottom of their "approved" list:
ATI FirePro V5800 Professional Graphics 1 GB GDDR5 SDRAM Used/Tested
And it doesn't fit :( This metal thingy on a back I can remove I guess, but even if I do - card will...
Not sure what I need. According to accessory list - there is 2 different types of rails for this case and I need to mount 2 servers in rack, trying to figure best/budget solution..
1. Value rail kit - AXXELVRAIL - ~$60
2. Advanced rail kit - AXX3U5UPRAIL - ~$100
3. Adjustable rack shelves like...
Looking for a video card from a list:
GPU Requirements for RemoteFX on Windows Server 2012 R2 | Thomas Maurer
Probably from "Better/Good" category as I don't want to spend more than couple hundred $
There will be 1-2 people on a server using it, so not much needed.
Let me know what you got!
Just curious how many using this and what is a feedback? In my mind Hyper-V and any virtual servers always were "dumb" in a way that no GPU needed or used.
I'm software developer and my main tool is Visual Studio. WPF does use lot's of GPU and currently I develop in VM on my MacBook Pro. But...
