maybe unraid is your choice then? you can use fast drive(one or more) for primary storage, then it get's moved to secondary storage at night. they added zfs native in last release too.

your drives are PCIe 4.0, while your server is PCIe 3.0 only, so you will never reach drive full potential..

if you wanna just test a drive, can you connect it to PCIe with adapter just to see how it works?

how are the drives connected? i see some PCIe switched used in system. can you try different ports? i'm not sure how backplane are connected to the mobo.

shit happens is all i can say. when i could not remove it by fingers, i tried with screwdriver(still no go). And i never noticed any scratches myself, until i returned this board to Supermicro for warranty(BMC died) - they sent me a photo, and then i remembered about this case. and of course...

@dnb be very careful - i bent some lanes on the mobo when tried to remove it..
