My initial excitement about retimer card from Supermicro turned out to be premature. I could not get all 8 drives to be seen by the system. Two out of 8 disks would go missing. I had to go with a much more cost effective solution instead by ordering PCIe to SFF-8654 Adapter PCIe 4.0 x16 to...
Put all hardware parts together and tested the system today. No issues! That is a great relief. Retimer cards are working fine with ASRock board with only BIOS bifurcation.
According to FAQ Entry | Online Support | Support - Super Micro Computer, Inc. the main difference is in hybrid drive support. I wonder if BPN-NVME3-216N-S4 can sustain NVMe4 drive speeds.
I am putting together a system based on CSE-216 chassis. Just grabbed the last one on eBay for 350 and a new backplane from wiredzone. Planning to use these cables:

I have SPC741D8UD-2T/X550 version and it came with an adapter. Mine has 3 8-pin motherboard connectors but I am only able to hook up two due to PSU limitation.
I am not sure if this is the cause, but I did have all 4 PCIe x16 slots populated with devices and used x4 nvme ssd in the available motherboard slot. Three of the x16 slots were taken by x16 devices and one by 8x device. My devices alone ate 16*3+8+4=60 PCIe lanes. System has 97 lanes if I...
Hello.
I have acquired SPC741D8UD-2T/X550 motherboard. Paired it with Xeon Gold 6416H and put 8 sticks of 64GB MTC40F2046S1RC48BA1 memory. That should have given me 512GB of total memory. Memory was bought from the QVL list specifically. System was put into supermicro 826BE16-R920LPB case...
You do not need active cable for what you want to achieve. Passive is what you need. Not sure about Brocade DAC cables. But transceiver modules should be MM (Miltymode type). Here is a link to Brocade modules support: https://www.andovercg.com/datasheets/brocade-ethernet-optics-family-ds.pdf

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post this... I've installed MCX354A-QCBT (followed excellent conversion guide) on two ESXi servers with similar hardware. One has Supermicro X10SLM-F board, the other Asus P9D-M board. CPUs are also similar: One is E3-1246 v3 the other is E3-1240 v3...
Found this PDF document about officially supported Brocade optics. Thought it would be interesting for those who need monitoring for modules:

Also look for Broadcom BCM5709 chip cards. They come in different port counts as well. I have several two ports ones. Work out of the box on all major OSes.
