    Is this Supermicro 847 36-bay a good deal?

    Over double that now. I got excited to snatch one up for cheap but it seems a certain somebody drove the demand sky high... Hopefully the nvme backplane prices don't take a similar hike as I'm eyeing one for my own long term plans for this chassis as well.

    If you want to do this, I'd recommend one of the newer SuperMicro passthrough backplanes. They seem similar to Dell's R630 10 bay setup where the lower numbered bays are connected into a standard SAS3 HBA and the highest four bays have a separate connection via individual 8643 Mini SAS HD cables...
