    So the raid card delivers all the info and the pcie is just to power the card? I feel stupid but I'm glad I asked.

    @TheBloke try using an add2psu to connect both power supplies to turn on at once. that will help with the power issue. Also how did it work with the expander on a pcie riser? wouldn't 1x to 8x reduce speeds?
