Ok so the st4000nm0074 dual port hdd has arrived and so has the dual port cable from lsi i361-8i to the Seagate hdd .
I have installed windows server 2016 and enabled MPIO.
There are heaps of videos and help setting up mpio to a ip array but NO videos or help on dual pathing a internal hdd ...
I am back , I have a dual port sas hdd and dual port cable connected to a 9361-8i.
Can you help me setup MPIO to connect dual path to this hard drive ?
Hi
I am new to windows server 2016.
I am trying to setup dual port to 1 x ST4000nm0074 4tb hdd via a megaraid 9361-8i card.
This megaraid card is internal to my z820 and I am using dual port cables.
I have enabled MPIO in features, and checked the boxes iSCSI + SAS in MPIO properties...
ok so here's what i am going to do first
i am going to order :
4 x Dual port 12gb/s 4tb hdds
2 x SFF-8643 to SFF-8680 x2 cable
1 x SFF-8643 to SFF-8680 x4 cable
When they arrive i will test both cables out and compare read and write speeds and the dual port functionality on Win 10.
The reason...
This is the deal !
PC = z820
I ordered a 9361-8i 2gb ( 8 ports : made up of 1 x SFF-8643 to 4 x SFF-8680 ports ) x 2
The SFF-8680 can be brought as 2 cables :
1) dual port : SFF-8643 to SFF-8680 x2 ( the dual ports are using the 4 total ports/ 2 x SAS hdds only) :
HD Mini-SAS Cables (12Gb/s)...
Hi
Can someone tell me once I have a dual port sas st4000nm0025 connected via the SFF-8680 dual port cable to my lsi 9361-8i what I need to do in Windows 10 to set this up properly please ?
Hi
I realise this is a old thread.
I am wondering if there is anything software related that needs to be done to utilise a dual ports on a workstation. Win 10 ?
I am planning to buy a dual port 12Gb/s sas drive and a dual port SFF-8680 cable going to a purchased lsi 9361-8i 12Gb/s card.
I...
Imgur: The magic of the Internet
After all that it was the right cable , see image link above. It clearly shows the second sas port 2 and where it is situated in the SAS backplane on the oppositee side.
That’s great news so here is a chart of the cables ...
I think that’s the wrong special cable your taking about, it’s 11pm here in Perth I am off with the fairies. Thanks for all the info very much appreciated. Tomorrow I will google my brains out trying to understand how this works or what cable I need which will help me understand it.
So basically every dual port SAS hard drive has two ports on the sas connector. So that special cable splits a sas connector into 2 ports. WOW is that correct !
What do I need to do this please don’t tell me another 9361-8i ?
Can’t I do this with just one 9361-8i or am I limited to only 4 x...
So is dual port just for 2 different devices accessing the sam sas drive or is dual port two pathways to the same pc to increase speed ?
Sorry I am not understanding what dual port does in lamens sas newbie terms
Can you give help me understand the theory of this is there a drawing of the connections so I can see what your saying ?
I am thinking 9361-8i outputs to 2 single expanders and each expander outputs to 4 x sas 12Gb/s drives ? Is that right ?
Is MPIO a driver in Windows 10 or a Microsoft add...
I am using a 960 or 950 pro for c drive and the array is going to be my DAW library Samples etc
On my current z800 my 950 pro has read 1600mb/s and write 900mb/s under PCIe 2.0. I am hoping with the Z820 which is on its way I will get full bandwidth of the 950 pro through PCIe 3.0 2500/1600...
Two of the three drives above are sata 6Gb/s, so I am considering sata but also I have to weigh in costs and the three are available in bulk cheap with good enough specs for raid 0 array of 8.
