My $.02 here... I have been using LGA 3647 for awhile in a couple of systems at home. The 6154 CPUs were being e-wasted at work so they were $0, which helps.
This is offset by how expensive the motherboards are. Also, this socket can only do PCI-e Gen 3, but that isn't much of a problem...
Sorry for the slow response, it's been a crazy month.
In March or so, the build guys swore to me that they would have 18.04 working in a reasonable time frame. Lo and behold, I was able to build and load the latest internal nightly version on 18.04 with minimal difficulty. I don't have a gen2...
Are you guys still having issues getting your Fusion-IO devices to work? I have a mix of Gen2 and Gen3 products at home on EL7 and 18.04 so just let me know.
FYI, according to the installation guide the difference between the G8124 and G8124E is the CPU:
"The RackSwitch G8124-E is a performance-enhanced switch with a faster management processor for improved aggregation layer functionality"
I just inherited one of these. It looks like a good switch...
I have 12x 16GB of dual rank memory in a set of C6100's and XS23-TY3's, and they all run at 1333 mhz. The memory isn't hard to find at all, it just costs more.
You guys are my heroes, I had two XS23-TY3 units that wouldn't take the X5650 CPU's I bought for them.
The BIOS/BMC files in the poweredgec link above include both the afudos utility and the latest bios version, what a fantastic resource. I put in an E5520 CPU and a single memory stick (must...
FWIW I was able to use 8x16GB with a single L5520 CPU. I haven't yet tried two 5520's but I'll report the results here if/when I do. This was an XS23-TY3.
OK right after I posted this, I figured out the main problem with my setup. I fixed it with these:
# echo connected > /sys/class/net/ib0/mode
# ip link set ib0 mtu 65520
Now I am getting > 10 gigabit with 4 threads, though the qlogic still degrades pretty quickly, at 32 threads it is around 5...
Nice thread you have going here, I am trying to get acceptable IPoIB results, but they aren't looking so good yet. I'll post some results and I have a couple of questions.
All machines are Dell R620's with E5-2660 cpu's and 20Gb cards. I tried connecting the test machines directly with a...
