ReFS on new volume, or not

Thanks all. I went with NTFS, as it seems Microsoft somewhat wants to "make" ReFS EOL.

ReFS on new volume, or not

Thanks for reply, both of you. #2 I dont run that many instances of vm anymore, so It's mostly videoarchives. #3 Spot on. But I have never experienced the need for a ntfs-recovery to begin with. I dont even know if one could recover ntfs-data from an array that have failed due to missing...

ReFS on new volume, or not

Oh gosh, so I wrote this down despite telling myself not to waste any space in the forum. But I could not get a clear anwser from the world-wide-web or searching trough the forum. I have a hw raid w/bbu & flash backup + APC. The hw-r controller supports "data consistency check" and 15x8tb=96tb...

    arcconf recan 1

I know it sounds odd, but can you low-level-format the new drive. Then insert it, and the manager should pick it up. Adaptec manuel will tell you to reboot and CRTL+R to force a rebuild. While the rebuild time would probably take 1-3 days, and the array will be in an even more fragile state...

Poor RAID-6 performance with Adaptec 7-series

Same raid-controller, different drive-configuration. 15x6 TB mixed vendors, (hgst ultrastar, Seagate, wd gold.) 6x8 Hgst HE8 SAS pooled together, with ssd write-cache (drivepool config). I've been using this for 2 or more years, contemplating zfs every now and then, it's our only way of...

Samsung NVMe drivers for MS Windows Server 2016 ?

#10 link is dead. I'm still having some issues with samsung nvme in 2016. but the default MS driver works. Although it's probably not the best.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X (16-core/32-thread) Desktop Processor $719

I heard talk about a x399 refresh Akka x490 That would support the newer zen 2 threadripper 16, 18, 24 core version. X399 still takes the ~16 cores only. While the x490 for the newer higher core count cpu's and more lanes. Maybe it was empty talk, but It makes investing in x399 stupid at this...

Hardware Decoding in Plex Linux VM

You can always purchase a quadro nvidia card, to obtain more than the limited 2-streams. There's a list, that shows just which quadro is limited to 2 and which is not, and also the list shows which codec it supports. Maybe you can use an amd card, that does not have any restricted transcoding...

    E5-2696V4 -128GB DDR4-Z10PED16WS

Okay, I also found them at memory4less but at 198 only because of easter discount. I will hereby adjust the prices accordingly :) And bear in mind, not all Z10PED16WS supports E5-V4s. Even when buying a new one, you may end up having to return it a few times before getting a newer revision board.
