Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

I don't use proxmox myself, so I did not plan to implement anything for proxmox support. That said, I am happy to review a pull request if you want to make one that add proxmox installation.

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Announcing the first release candidate for the Virtual Zone Director 1200 experimental project! Notable features: * runs as a docker container on linux, instead of a dedicated hardware box * supports a wider range of Ruckus AP models than any single version of Unleashed. Especially useful for...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

I think that is correct, you would need to apply the same method to the smartzone software download: decrypt, extract r600 firmware, apply patch, install ISI firmware on r600, install patched sz firmware on r600. If you give an LLM the python script it might be able to do it for you.

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

This patch script can be used to fix the behavior in the R600 firmware that is bundled with ZoneDirector 1200 software version 10.5.1.0.282. To test it today, you would downloaded that ZD software from Ruckus, then decrypt it, then extract the AP firmware for R600, then apply this patch, and...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Thanks for sharing that experience! Here is a python script that patches the firmware included with ZD version 10.5.1.0.282. After applying the patch, I needed to first install an ISI (eg R600_110.0.0.0.675.bl7 ) firmware to the R600 to permit installing this patched+unsigned firmware. Let me...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

The firmware for the R600 in the SZ 5.2.2 AP patch release does not appear to have this bug. The release date for that was 2024-03-22 which is four days before the release date for ZD version 10.5.1.0.276 which introduced the bug. Here is an excerpt from the release notes for ZD which mentions...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

I think my edit of my last message happened after you read it.Good news is that there is a fix that is now being tested. The breaking change seems to have happened in the 10.5.1.276 release, and I expect all the earlier builds would properly support mesh backhaul for R600's. I don't know if any...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

With much LLM help, it appears that the R600 AP firmware is mangling the packets as they cross the boundary between wired backhaul and the wireless mesh connections to mesh APs. @ms264556 Would you have any suggestions for patching the code running on an AP running firmware provided by ZD...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Wireless mesh is not working with the virtual zd1200 and my R600 APs, I wonder if I can ask for some help to diagnose the issue with some captured DHCP packets from a working mesh setup running on a ZD1200, ideally version 10.5.1 and any model AP. The behavior I see is the mesh AP associates...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

I do not see any "Internet Status" indication on the ZD1200 interface, as I do with Unleashed. Even with the firewall set up to block the management VLAN access to the internet, the Unleashed status shows the internet is connected, which would fit with your hypothesis that it tries to access the...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Thanks again @ms264556 ! Having root shell makes patching things like these so much easier. Without it, I needed to stop the zd1200 container, spin up a helper docker container and install and run guestfish to get to the zd1200's files inside the VM and read/edit them. The script you provided is...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

@ms264556 I'd like to have a convenient way to get a root shell in the ZD running in the VM. I think that should be possible by adding a new command to /bin/sys_wrapper.sh and later invoking it from the cli. Could you advise a good way to do that?

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Stopping the zd1200 docker container is instantaneous. Booting it takes about 35 seconds. My home network has a few VLANs and the networking equipment uses one of them as a management VLAN. The docker host has a lot of other services that are all connected to a different VLAN, so I want to...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Thanks @ms264556 for those suggestions, I added links to decrypt and set the serial/mac/etc in the github repo's README . You are right! I originally got it working with ZD software version 10.2.1.0.232, and then used that as a starting point to get this version working. the main difference...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

This is an experiemental virtual ZoneDirector 1200 running in a QEMU VM inside a Docker. It's not a polished product release, just a hack project and requires a bit of persistance to get working. With that caveat in mind... I have been running it for several days alongside my existing Unleashed...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

@ms264556 Are you working on a software-only virtualized version of ZoneDirector which would behave like a hardware ZD1200 ? The context for this question is that I am concerned about the meshed R600 APs that are outside my house (unlocked shed). It seems that anyone could join the management...

I am looking to buy one of these switches, with shipping to Germany. My budget is low, around 200 euro for the 7150, 100 for the 6430. Judging by recent trends, prices seem to have gone up in the last 2 years, so maybe I need to just wait to see if the used market prices come down again. Thanks...
