I ordered 4 of these to see if they will work in a 3rd gen scalable Xeon as regular RDIMM. Figured they were a cheap way to upgrade my RAM speed if they did. I’ll post updates here when I get around to trying them.
This might be a dumb question but this doesn’t require an AMD system correct? Should work with any CPU?
Like a trip back in time to the socket 5/7 days when you could have different CPU and chipset vendors.
I bought 4 of these at $45 each. They arrived today. They look brand new, no dust or wear or tear. I removed the heat sink on one and the thermal pads look clean as well.
All at 100% life, no partitions on them and no data written. All less than 20 power on cycles and single digit power on...
I have an Asrock rack SPC621D8 running a QUYS step 4 which is a 6336y equivalent.
Could/would this board support a QWAN or other higher core CPUs.
I see QVLP but I think the 330W is too much for the board.
Is it safe to say if I can run a step 4, I could run a step 5 or 6?
Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply. My experience is the same as @mtg
The 64gb of RAM I have acts as a cache for the 512gb optane so performance really depends on how large the model is and where it fits.
Gptoss-120b at around 60gb fits almost entirely in that RAM space depending on context and...
Thank you to everyone in this thread. I was able to get the board, cpu and cooler all recommended in this thread. I downgraded the bios via IPMI and everything’s working great.
I reused 4x16gb ddr4 from a v4 build and added 4x128gb optane pmem 200 ( for about $300 eBay) in memory mode and can...
My couple of thoughts on the device the OP posted. Looking at the port layout it looks like the same motherboard most of the ‘noname’ Chinese devices use, the OEM is sixunited.
I’m chatting with the factory direct people in China about the Bosgame M5 model of this and they can get a quantity...
I need to replace some Crucial BX500 drives that while cheap at the time were not the right choice for the job they were put in and have begun to fail.
I knew that going in and it was more of an experiment to see how long they would last. The answer is just over 3 years. So not terrible but...
Well thanks to @Marsh I got and setup one of those dual core AMD boards. Dual port Intel NIC came in yesterday. Had a mini itx case, 8GB DDR3 and Intel SSD laying around, got pfsense installed but it will have to wait until late night this weekend to swap from out current pfsense box. We'll see...
Old I know but not bad for a motherboard, CPUs, I/O shield and what looks like 1u heatsinks.

Edit: ATX formfactor if someone needs cheap workstations.

Power usage and server load in pictures.
Edit: I think mechanical SAS drives kill any power advantage by switching sockets.
